DUmmies Discuss Mattresses
« on: August 02, 2009, 12:52:27 AM »
The DUmmy protege, who is likely envied beyond all imagination by DUmmy Mythsaje, has a problem:

Holy cow! Mattresses are expensive as hell...
I cannot justify spending so much money on something that I lay on 5-8 hours at a time. But then again, I cannot take many more nights sleeping on my current mattress. The springs are bulging out and driving me crazy.
God damn you Mattress monopolies!!!

1. Last year, I spent nearly a thousand dollars for something that, less than a month later, was
put on a "clearance sale" for $300!

If I'm not mistaken, August is one of the mattress "clearance sale" months.
Watch the newspaper ads.
DUmmy Petrushka is severely mistaken. Mattress stores have 30-day clearance sales underway 12 times per year, followed by a single year-long clearance sale. DUmmy Petrushka paid $1000 for a $300 used mattress simply due to being a DUmmy, not due to missing a sale.

2. My mattress cost $900, Insanity!

Who would have suspected? The DUmp has mattress snobs!

And now, sadly, the protege DUmmy admits to having no chance with the ladies whatever:

7. I need an extra long twin. I want a pillow top...
I have a lot of neck and back issues for someone my age. And with some other health issues, a good nights sleep is a necessity.

All the ones I have looked at cost around 500-600 dollars. But I will have to keep my eye open for deals.

The protege DUmmy, at a very early age, is already assembling a list of reasons that regular employment is impossible. By middle age he will be a very fine DUmmy, indeed, unless his protegeship is exceptionally vigorous and successful.

10. I'm 19. I have a lot of problems with muscle tension...
and I have a neurological disorder called hypersomnia. Basically it means that I have episodes of extreme tiredness/drowsiness during the day. One way to alleviate symptoms is to make sure I get a really good nights sleep.
I think I'm just going to spend the money and get a good mattress. But I'll wait a while and see if I can find a deal.

Hypersomnia! I knew there had to be a more scientific name for hangovers.

DUmmy Roon reminds me of another repulsive, cutesy, babytalk word that will hereinafter be starred. No one past the age of four should ever be allowed to use this word:

6. Always have a comfy mattress
and a comfy pair of shoes..that way you are always comfy! Sleep is so important to me,I always have a comfy mattress..no matter what!!

And finally, believe it or not, a word of good advice from a DUmmy:

16. I was told by a guy who makes mattresses to NEVER buy any mattress you can't flip.
Seriously. I know a man who grew up in a local family that owns a mattress company. One day I sat down with him and started asking questions. I started out by asking what kind of mattress he has at home. He says he sleeps on a latex mattress with a removable (and washable!) pillow top.

He says that pillow top is not the problem, it is the lack of ability to flip the mattress that creates sags and valleys. He also says that if you do not flip your mattress regularly you are cutting its life in half.

DUmmies complain about spending money on something that they spend almost a 1/3 of their life on, not to mention the fact that a good night's sleep makes the difference in how you feel that day. Oh wait, DUmmies love being miserable, they should sleep on rock piles.

I would have thought that the enviro-wacky DUmmies would have been sleeping on straw.......carbon footprint and all, you know.

Where you sleep and how you sleep  in so underestimated.

First, why do we sleep. all manuals and some fish sleep.

When you live on plant Earth, for some reason sleep is a necessity,

Where do you sleep, how many hours and do you dream.?

There are tens of manufactures of mattresses that will guarantee you a good nights sleep, you can pay $300.00 to  over a thousand in search for sleep that will regain you your strenth and ability to move on with life.

Interesting thing here, we managed to form a new nation with straw mattereses and  now we want the top of the line bedding.

We're looking at Tempur-pedics right now.

$1000 doesn't even get them to talk to you.

Maybe if I had a dollar for every night I spent on the ground I could afford one of those fancy thangs.

Bought a Tempurpedic about 3 years ago.  I won't go back to a regular mattress.  You're right though ..... our mattress was close to $4,000.  It has been replaced 2 times due to the stitching coming out on the top but it was a matter of emailing them pics and them calling asking when we wanted the new mattress.  Very good customer service.

It is a very good mattress.

Manuals...

I slept on the garage floor not too long ago. My blanket was thick enough padding for this manual.

I tried the Temperpedic; my ex wasn't as impressed.  Took a long time to get used to it.  It's so expensive, make sure you really want it.

Moving on to the topic at hand, I was so amused by this "hypersomnia", which causes "episodes of extreme tiredness/drowsiness during the day", that I decided to go to the google.

It is classified as mental disorder in the DSM-IV-TR.  From http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/291699-overview

We bought a sleep number bed and it's the best thing we ever did. My husband likes a medium firm mattress and I like one I can just sink into. We both get what we want.

Are those engineering manuals or all manuals in general? Who woulda known? All this time I have kept mine on the shelf, when I should have put them in bed with me!

My Doc is recommending a Sleep Number. He thinks that will help with the 6 screws in L4 and L5.

Yeah, I had to laugh when I read "hypersomnia." You just knew it had to be one of those rare disorders that only a DUmmie would get. I've got an idea of the cause though that might help him: lay off the weed and don't stay up all hours the night before school/work.

You did post a blurb about experiencing hypersexuality due to a bad mattress.

Gee, think I will drop 40 pound boulders on my bed for 6 hours a day.

Won't cost much, just hire a bunch of teens that have graduated and cant find jobs.   My cost is  $500.00 bucks but getting the old man to become hypersexual is worth all that trouble.

Heck, I can sleep anywhere but with the right mattress I get some action.
