Texas says don't give dropouts a job.

By TERRENCE STUTZ / The Dallas Morning

AUSTIN – Texas' education chief, stung by criticism of his agency's system for reporting how many students drop out of school, called on the state's leading business group Thursday to help launch a voluntary statewide ban on the hiring of high school dropouts by Texas employers.

State Education Commissioner Robert Scott said businesses in Texas should quit hiring school-age dropouts to force those teenagers to either remain in school or continue their education elsewhere, such as through an online program.

"We need a commitment from businesses in this state to not hire kids who have dropped out of school," the commissioner said, contending that such an employment ban would go a long way in curbing the state's high dropout rate.

2. Very unfair. School is not for everybody.
And you can be successful with knowledge not taught there.
Wait a minute. Almost no one at the DUmp has much useful knowledge, and almost no one at the DUmp is successful. Is there some kind of logic lurking in that?

DUmmy LostInAnomie demonsrates the refinement that can only come from a person with his level of education:

5. This is just as ****ed up as trying to fix the illegal immigration problem by erecting a fence.
Why not get to the heart of the issue and try to understand why people leave school (or Mexico) in the first place? Simplistic solutions for the simple-minded.

DUmmies whine constantly about losing all the good minimum-wage jobs to wetbacks. Then they raise hell if we shoot them. Now they're raising hell if a fence is built to keep them out. What is it that DUmmies want?

8. They had a real opportunity and they blew it
I like the European system when kids get the general diploma at 16 but have the opportunity of continuing until they're 18 or 19, university to follow.

Not all kids are academically talented or interested. Instead of forcing them into a one size only fits half education, why not recognize that?

Dumb ole Texas could have been a leader. Now they're just dumb ole Texas and I hope they like the explosion in gangs.

DUmmies prefer everything the way it's done in Europe. These are DUmmies who have never been in Europe.

First, its just a proposal.

Second, they're right, a fence is simply a stopgap measure. The best way to stop illegal immigration is to stop giving them welfare, free education and free healthcare.

The DUmbasses don't understand there is no middle class in Mehico! You're either rich or dirt poor. That's the biggest reason for illegal immigration. If Mehico would take care of their own, we wouldn't have to worry about our influx from south of the border. The wages in Mehico are the equivalent of the 1940's in America.

Using DUmmie think.....scools are not for everyone....schools teach useless shit.... you can be successful without an education.....blah, blah, blah.....then why the hell do they demand more funding for the building and running of more schools. Why not just let the kids dropout and shut down half of them ....it'd save a hell of lot of tax dollars.

OH yeah, I forgot. The oppressed kids need some place to steal toilet paper from.

We had about 10 people drop out of my class (almost 10%).  From what I've heard of them, not a single one has made anything out of their lives so far that is even close to resembling a positive member of society.

Sure, lets just let people choose to leave school at 16.  That'll make things great.   :whatever:

We had no drop outs my senior year, but 2 from my class did graduate early by loading up on classes. We did have one guy that didn't "graduate" with the class because he failed two subjects.  He was still allowed to go through the ceremony, but did make up his classes that summer.

There were only 55 in my class, and 20 of us were there from kindergarten on.

There are numerous reasons why tech business and other industries set up shop or relocate to Texas.

A fairly high level of education among the general population is one of them.

Keeping kids in school...and using plans such as this one are why we have such a large group or well educated folks.

My dad does business with a company that is based in Mexico.  I tagged along one time and was talking with one of the Execs about my age and he confirmed what you said.

And the rich folks way to get rid of the poor that line the streets is to send them north...with the blessing of their gov't of course.

Now when it comes to someone trying to sneak illegally into Mexico...well that's a different story...they have stricter laws than we do.

50% of their military is garrisoned in the southern part of the country and their southern border is fenced up tighter than the Korean DMZ

There were only 55 in my class, and 20 of us were there from kindergarten on.

There were a total of about twelve kids in my neighborhood about my age growing up.  I'm one of the only two that have ever done anything.

Among the girls, two were pregnant in high school, they both now have several kids by different men and are unmarried.  Two more were within a year of graduating, but at least the babies' father married the mother.  One of the fathers couldn't hack it in the Coast Guard, the other took to blaming his wife and kid for his failures.  One girl was a stoner, who had started out cute, but by the time she was a junior the drugs were taking their toll.

Among the guys.  Two dropped out early, and have never really done anything more than menial labor.  One had a football scholarship to Florida State, then got DUI prior to going and lost his scholarship.  Four have spent at least some significant amount of time as guests of the state of Florida.  Two are in the ground, one for general stupidity the other because his he tried to screw his business associate out of money, the business was drugs.

Two of us did at least some college work.  One of us went in the military.  All in all, a really sad pull, but the neighborhood never has produced much.

Says the group of people with a higher percentage of "permanent students" than any other single demo.

And what happened to the "stupid, uneducated Rethug" meme?  They should be encouraging these kids to stay in school if that's what "enlightens" minds to the benefits of socialism.

It kills me to see how contradictory the DUmmies are  :banghead:

On one hand they claim to be for the poor, especially poor minorities.  I would bet huge amounts of money that the majority of the kids dropping out of high school and trying to get jobs are poor minorities.  The best way for them to improve their futures would be for them to complete school, which is what the education chief is trying to get them to do.

Personally, I do think that there should be more trade oriented option in high school, where kids could honestly go into a skilled trade type job, such a welding or auto repair,  once they graduate from high school.  I do agree that there are kids who don't excel in academics, and who would be more likely to stay in school if they were learning something they were more interested in.

If I'm hiring a position, the desires of a State official are one of the very last things I'd consider.  The fact that the candidate hadn't finished high school usually, but not invariably, says something about their ability to see things through, but I'm going to look at the entire person versus the demands of the position.  The fact that they might be a moonbat would count against them far more than being a dropout would.
