So....here I sit
« on: July 31, 2009, 09:31:01 PM »
in the hotel that we will be living at for about a month.  We got here a couple of hours ago after a two day dive with two dogs that don't know how to walk on a leash and bark every time they see a person or an animal.  I'm using the hotels TV  Internet.  Their keyboard is VERY hard to use, you have to push every key hard and I find I keep skipping keys.

My girls are flying on Sunday, they are currently staying with my parents.  The weather is pretty amaizing, it is currenty 71 degrees nd the high was 77 today.  I guess I can look at the weather as a positive about living in CA.

My friend Deb (the one I have posted pictures of before) is also moving here with her family.  In fact she got here about a week and a half ago.  Her husand works with my husband.  They put an offer on a house and got it and now she is freaking out.  Her husand wanted to be close to work and boy are they close.  She called me today crying because she just noticed how loud the planes are that fly overhead (it's close to LAX).  They were there today for their inspection and while standing outside they couln't hear each other talk when a plane flew by.

Maybe your friend Deb can complain and they'll move LAX if she gets enough neighbors to sign an online petition.  Oh wait, if she's you're friend, she's probably not a moonbat.

I'm sure it will be better when your girls get there.

Glad you made it safe and sound.   And I'm glad you have a friend there with you already...it's a bonus!

And living in a hotel isn't really that bad...I promise.  If I survived with 3 kid ,2 dogs and 4 cats, I'm sure you can!  I found walking the dogs, even when they were unruly, was theraputic.  I even found a couple places I could just go sit with themand enjoy being outside.

Enjoy being kid-free tomorrow!

Glad you made it there safely, BEG. Think of it as a month of not having to cook, clean the bathroom, or change the sheets......wanna trade? :-)

My brother and his wife closed on their house in Chicago today....they moved into a Residence Inn last night, the kids show up on Sunday - 4 and 6....they close on their new house the 27th.

I can't imagine doing this with children.... :o

<<<<hugs>>>> to you!!!

I have my computer back after two weeks of not being able to use it.  My husband just hooked it up here at the hotel.

Deb....I'll have to cook, the hotel comes with a kitchen.  LOL  We close on our house in the 28th.  In Texas when you close on the house you are able to move in that day but here in CA apparently it is customary to give the previous owners three days after you close to move out.

Thundley...my friend Deb is a lib but not a moonbat.  Actually she really isn't a lib, she just thinks she is.

Flame....I'll blame you if living in this hotel ends up sucking.  I hate walking Toby on a leash because he walks me not the other way around.

Hawkgirl....yes I do feel very displaced.  I am also very nervous about spending the amount of money we are spending on a house.  It makes me sick to my stomach.

Thanks Chris.   :-*

Here when you close on a house....you are usually out prior to closing, so that the new owners can move in immediately.

My brother closed first thing this morning, and they had to be out by closing. They just went into contract on the next house on Tuesday, and the seller needs 4 weeks to get out. It's been pretty stressful for them as they had a contract fall through once the home inspection was done, and offers on 2 others that they couldn't come to an agreement. This one appears to be going to work out....

Can't you disable that stove?   :evillaugh:

Hello BEG, welcome to California. I was going to suggest the dog beach but, a wet sandy dog in a hotel probably isn't going to work. But, hey, get out, walk around see the sights.

Beg , you are lucky to  move to CA now.. By that I mean the market is very depressed and housing is at an all time low.  I'm having a hard time selling my sisters house for 300,000.. and that's how much she put down on it shortly before she passed.

I REALLY need to drop by the lounge more often..... I had no idea you were moving.  I can imagine the "sick to your stomach" you must be feeling..... you just left one of the most affordable states for home ownership and moved to one of the most expensive!!!

Still, I'm jealous...I think of LA as being somewhat glamorous, for some reason.

Good luck!!

BEG, we had no kitchen in our hotel...it was a regualr hotel room...beds, bathroom, small table...that's it.  And as nice as eating out is, when you have to do it for 46 days, for all meals, it gets old.  REAL old.

Please tell me your friend is living in El Segundo or Manhattan Beach.  Outside that area, ghetto central.  North Redondo sucks, Inglewood and Hawthorne DEFINITELY suck.  Then again, you said overhead, and I can only hope you meant the takeoff pattern (west) of LAX, and the only thing there is Playa del Rey/Westchester.  Actually both El Segundo and Playa are off to the sides.  There's a butterfly habitat at the end of the LAX runway across the road from Pershing Drive (end of runways), then Vista Del Mar before you get to the beach.  BTW--DO NOT GO TO THE BEACH AT VISTA DEL MAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

If you want to take your dogs, there is a section of beach that dogs can be on in Huntington Beach north of the pier between about GoldenWest and the oil fields.  By the pier can get to be kind of a crazy/party atmosphere, but overall HB is far better than most of the LA County beaches.

BTW--did I mention at one time there was a service that pages/texts you when there's a car chase on television?  Great entertainment, those car chases.  Well, not so much when you actually get caught up in one.  Traffic gets ROYALLY screwed.

Aw, come on, the smell of wet, sandy, and salty dogs are something EVERYONE should enjoy at least once in their lives!  I tried to get them there at least a couple of times a month.  Let them run around like crazy and they are DEAD for the rest of the weekend.

BEG, PM me if you need some ideas on getting out if you get cooped up.  I can give you some places based on where you're staying.  That also includes boarding the dogs for a day or two if you need to get rid of them for a little while--I know a really fantastic place in HB just off Beach that is a "cage-free" kennel where they can play with all sorts of dogs, as long as they're fixed and not aggressive.

Yeah I guess it does allow us to afford a nicer house but the house we are buying (knock on wood that they find nothing serious in the inspection) is still three times more than the house we just sold in Dallas.  It is smaller (by 650 sq ft) which is really fine with me but is farther away from my husbands work than our house in Dallas was.  We could have gotten a house closer to his work but we would have gotten considerably less for our money.

We wanted to spend a lot less than we did but I swear for the price range we were originally looking at I wouldn't have wanted to live in the houses.  The first day we started looking in the south bay area the realtor said, "today I am going to show you your price range to show you that you will have to come up in price if you want to find a house that you will live in".  She was right, there was nothing I would have lived in in our original price range in the south bay area.  We didn't like that realtor so we switched realtors but found the same thing looking even further out in our original price range.  I could have "lived" in anything (actually there were a few houses I would have probably left my husband if I were forced to live in) but I wouldn't have been happy so we came up in price.  Even in the price range we ended up in there were only three houses out of at least 40 that we looked at that I would want to live in.  Now I  don't want to lead you all to believe that I was the only driving force in upping our price range, my husband also agreed.  I gave him an option of going down in sq footage even more so we could live in a neighborhood with good schools that was closer to his work but he said he would rather have a longer commute and have his family happy.

That is how I always thought it was, you were out by closing but our realtor said it is customary here in CA to give the previous owners three days after closing to get out.  Our sellers (well the husband) is in a wheel chair so it doesn't bother us too much.

After we made our offer I got buyers remorse and wished that it didn't appraise or they found something at the inspection.  Now I want it to pass inspection with every fiber of my being because it really was the best house we saw out there.

I'm worried about leaving the dogs in the hotel room and having the maids come in to change the sheets or give us new towels.  I'm going to have to put a do not disturb sign on the door all the time and just ask for new towels and sheets when we need them.

Yeah I'm not much for a smelly dog so I will hold off on the dog beach  until we are in our own house and can wash them properly.

I've done alot of moving in my day and never heard of not taking possession as soon as the closing happened except one time. My parents closed on the house, the previous owner had a hitch moving out and she paid rent on the place to stay 3 weeks till she was out. We did the Suite life for 7 weeks till she did. It was fun registering for school with the home address as Howard Johnsons rooms blah & blah. They were a wee bit confused/disconcerted on the whole situation.

BTW My closing is the 14th. Sure are alot of houses swapping hands around here.

It's in El Segundo Sparky.  My friend is in mourning and was crying all day yesterday.  The house they are buying is 1169 sq ft.  They are minimalist but they have two kids and two cats, it's going to be tight.  She said inside the house it isn't too bad but when you are outside you literally can't hear the other person speak when standing right next to them when a plane flies overhead.  On a good note though it was built in 1940 and is cute as can be.

Ok I officially can't bitch if you had to live 46 days in a hotel room with no kitchen and all those pets (and kids).
