I took my 86 year old mother to the doctor yesterday, she has Medicare 

My mother has several medical conditions which need alot of different meds and
now and then some doctors visits and tests.

She has medicare.

I called up her doctor (its the one she picked) and they fit her in the very same day we called.

They examined her, they ran some tests and prescribed some medicines.

She is feeling much better thank you.

No worry about paying.

Oh we carry a medigap policy, so there's no out of pocket or deductibles.

Her medicines cost $12.00 with her medicare D.

I thought - wouldn't it be nice to have medicare, so that I, her caregiver -
could go to the doctor for routine checkups, mamogram, pap smears etc?

But that would be -horrors- government run health care.

I wouldn't want that, now would I?

4. that's the laughable thing. they use medicare as an example of a bad government system. but show me a senior on medicare that would want it changed or taken away. try to imagine all those seniors without medicare. My dad didn't have medicare.... he had a pension and his insurance through kodak... but they have been screwing with that for their retirees. If he were still around (he died in april) i wonder how they would have made it harder for him.

I took my 94 year old grandmother to the doctor yesterday - after spending a week going through about 13 different offices to get her an appointment. She is also on several different medications, but needed some medical care - thank goodness it wasn't urgent. BTW, did you know it takes about 200 man hours for a prescription to be put in the medicare system? I don't think that this particular visit is necessarily representative of the medicare system we have now, but it sure exhibited some issues to me. Not al lgovernment run healthcare is quite as rosy as depicted in the OP...

The primitives seem to think medicare/medicaid is the way to go with health care, and feel that the easiest way to 'single payer' is to eliminate the age restriction.

Do they even realize the medicaid/medicare programs are what Obama plans to cannibalize to make his program work ? And that Grandma and granddad will be reduced to pain management if its believed by the ObamaCare wonks that the patient is beyond saving ?

Here is a pair of factoids for you primitives, that are very much related...

Give or take 25% of the cost generated by a senior to the medicare/medicaid programs are in the senior's last year of life.
Obama plans of cannibalizing about 25% out of the medicare/medicaid programs to make his plan 'cost neutral'..
