old folks and the problem they face.
« on: July 28, 2009, 03:01:24 PM »
I am not an old folk yet but time is flying by and anyone over 50 years old needs to start planing.

I am not talking about 401k plans, I am talking about how what ever happens to to the medical care in America.

This is my view  geared more for the people that retire on a set pension with family that is 20-30 years older then them.

My neighborhood has a 75% population of people that have down sized themselves and bought into this area for the easy upkeep and still have a home the kids can gather at for the holidays.

So 10 years ago as I walked down the street checking out the landscaping of my neighbors, those old timers were very willing to show me their flower beds, but when I asked questions they directed me to a different part of the lawn.

Today I have a disability and the older generation has no problem with showing me the plants they grow to calm down Arthritis, stomach problems, ease heart burn ----but they still get a bit tichie if I want to know about the plants in the back yard.

Yes I know what these law abiding tax paying old folks are growing back there.

They grow a few plants that have no blood on them from those that bring in the stuff.

These are not hippies, kids or anyone looking for a high, these folk cannot pay the co-payment for medication that keeps away the pain, improves their eye sight and calms them better then some God awful depressant that causes some people to commit suicide.

After talking to the old folks and why they will face time in jail to live pain free--I have changed my views.

Aspirin, the medical drug that the drug company's cannot put on the RX list a life saver.
But thousands have died from overdoses.  Never heard of an over dose from smoking anything.

The elderly and those with a medical problem that cannot afford man made drugs to help them are now growing a freaking weed to help them.

What do we do here, if say one has a parent that has health problems that lead them to not eat, just melt away, who in their right mind would watch this happen.    If you could give them a tea made from illegal leaves, would you do it ?

Would anyone risk jail to keep a parent alive for another year or two ?  I would, would you ???

I have been anti-drug for years, only because others have told me to be,  now I have changed my mind as time has passed on.

Some have made references to me being on way out drugs when I post   :lmao:

Would be nice, but I still have $500.00 a month in co-payments for the legal drugs this family uses.

At this time I am in a quandary, the law against the needs of the people.

My question is, how far would any of you go even if it meant breaking the law to keep a loved one alive even if that time is only 6 months extra for them.

I can't say how far I would go to keep a family member alive if their life consists of pain, being bed-ridden, etc. I watched my mom slip away from the time I was 15 until I was 17 due to cancer. I watched my step-dad die a slow agonizing death due to Parkinson's. As for me, all I ask is that one gives me life support for a couple of weeks and if I'm meant to live, I will continue to do so after the life support is removed. I never have believed in burdening my family with prolonged hospital care. I would just as soon check out quickly than to lie in limbo, suffering, or making my family suffer.

While I suspect there's an agenda behind you posting this, which I don't wish to get into or open.  I'll say this, I don't care if your grandmother is smoking a joint to relieve her arthritis, ms, cancer, fibro, or hell... because she prefers it to liquor.
