mopinko (1000+ posts) Thu Jul-23-09 11:30 PMOriginal message life with doctors sometimes i wonder if it would really be that bad without them. i had a colonoscopy today, and woke up screaming not once, not twice, but three times in the course of that procedure. and to ice the cake, the doc was an ass when going over his findings. this particular doc is no great loss. he is a holdover from a different pcp, different hospital system. wasn't planning to see him again. maybe he was trying to make up for lost time. he was late getting started because he was tied up with a phone call. the nurse told me it was an emergency, but had just asked another nurse who he was fighting with. but holy ****ing shit.

Sounds like your doc had a few other things on his mind. No excuse, I'd speak to his superiors. Did the anesthesiologist not give you enough of the stuff(whatever it is) to knock you out? Just about everyone I know over 50 has had this procedure done but I never heard of anyone waking during the procedure. I'd be mad as heck.I hope today finds you more comfortable. Maybe I'm just a pushy old broad but I'd be on the phone today to whoever I could find and complain. A simple procedure should not cause you physical and emotional trauma as this did.

I don't get the promised amnesia, either.GI docs do get emergencies and his puff adder with a hangover bedside manner probably came from sheer frustration. At least it's done. This is a procedure I can't get while I'm uninsured.

I'm due for it again, its been 6 years but now that I am among the ranks of unemployed Seniors, I not only had to cancel my MD appointment but one of the reasons I did was because he would push for this test and I cannot afford the 20% co-pay under Medicare. May not seem like a lot to others but right now, I don't have the money to pay for it. The cost of supplements is out too. My SS check has to go to things like my house and food. Not much left for something like this, even though I know how important it is. WE're all in the same boat.Hey, Congress critters, prevention is cheaper than the alternative. Let's have some real healthcare action. This is a good example of why we need some help with care. All the talk about preventative care means nothing if you can't afford to pay for it. Many of us are fortunate enough to have some assets but that does not mean we have any surplus. I do not qualify for assistance of any kind so I'll just wait it out like many others and hope I live long enough to avail myself of preventative care. How many thousands does a procedure like that cost now, I wonder? $5,6,7000 if you include all the MD's, and use of the operating room, recovery room and the other very expensive things that go along with any hospital procedure.Back to replacing a window I broke this AM. Good thing the cuts I got trying to open it were not to bad. The window was swollen from all this rain. Pushed too hard, put hand right through the glass. Smart!Glad you are fine Mopinko.
