Yes, in some states and jurisdictions, but not all, a person whom kills another in self-defense is often arrested initially.
Unfortunately, for the last few years in Britain, that initial arrest has often been followed by condemnation of the act as well as charges being filed which led to convictions.
Let's keep in mind that the arrestee did not kill the perp, merely injured him with a letter opener. So for a charge of "attempted murder" rather than some other charge, say of assault and battery for instance, that's going waaaaaay over the top.
This is England, though, not the U.S. But I still can't help but wonder if England hasn't gone over to the dark side. I mean, look at what happened to Madonna.
