I don't want to move....
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:44:31 AM »
I'm depressed sitting around my Mom's house all day.  We have been here since last Tuesday when the movers finished packing all of our stuff.  I'm surrounded by a ton of crap that we had to keep out of the stuff the movers took because we wont be moving into our new house until the end of August and we kept stuff we might need in the next month.  There is no where to put anything and we are living on top of each other.  My Mom wont let me do anything.  Every time I start to do a load of laundry or cook she takes over.  All I do all day is sit on the couch.  Everyone is always on the computer, in fact this is the first time I have sat down at it.  Every time you see me on CC I'm on my phone not the computer.  Yesterday I resorted to watching MAURY POVICH for two hours....I'm that bored.

So my friend txt me yesterday (her husband works for my husband).  You apparently have to pay State taxes AGAIN on any car under a year old when you bring it into California.  We bought my car a year ago in October.  I am so sick of taxes I want to scream.  We pay 25% fed, we will pay 9.3% CA state, our property taxes will triple (not the percentage but the total dollar amount will because housing is three times what it is in Texas).  Add to that all the other taxes and I want to punch someone....bad.

I was secretly hoping that the house we are going to buy wouldn't appraise.  I started thinking that we should rent and my husband work at this job for the two years he has to to be able to keep his mobility bonus and then maybe the economy would be getting a little better and he could get a new job in a different state.  Thwn we wouldn't have to mess with having to sell the new house and be able to just walk away.  BUT the appraisal came back yesterday and it appraised for a little more than what we are paying for it so we can't walk away from the house or we will lose the $10k earnest money we put down.   Don't get me wrong, I really like the new house (the 1949 yellow house for those of you who saw the pictures) but I don't want to live in California.  I'm seriously depressed just thinking about it.

We leave next week for CA.  We are staying in executive housing (read the Residence Inn) around where my husband will be working for about a month.  Fun when you have two dogs that don't walk well on a leash and you have to take them outside to go pee several times a day.  On a glass 1/2 full thought, maybe they will get better with walking on a leash by taking them out several times a day for a pee break.

I didn't post this in the crying forum because I realize that there are a lot bigger problems I could have and I am grateful that my husband has a job and we will have a roof over our head.

I'm sorry for you BEG.  Hopefully all will go smoothly and you will settle in nicely but not make any good friends so you won't miss them when you come BACK TO TEXAS!

Hang in there hon. It's really hard to be in someone else's house on top of having to relocate. It's like insult to injury because you are displaced for the time being. We had to do the same thing once and it stinks. Any of one of the things you mentioned would be enough to stress anyone out.

Once you're settled and on the way to getting into a routine in CA, it will ease up. Just know we're all here for you. That's the great thing about this place. You don't have to leave us behind or pack us in a box to take with you. You just log on to the internet!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Look at it this way, BEG....it will take you two years to see all the "sights" in CA....think of it as a two year vacation....and vacations are never cheap! :uhsure:

Yah me too, as an ex-services mans wife with 4 kids and no idea where we would be sent next I really feel your pain.

What next port of call will we be going to, what, we have 6 weeks to pack up and move, can we take our pets, what kind of place is this,---before computers when family's just walked into the unknown.

What are the rules for going over seas, what shots do we need, do the kids need to learn as new language to socialise with friends.?

State side was another problem, military housing had rules that varied, some allowed pets, others did not. Hubby over seas and you give birth, some housing allowed family members to spend 30 days with you, others only 2 weeks.

There are millions of woman like me out there that had to face constant disruptions in their lives, we survived as so will you., look at this as an adventure, something new and interesting,    Go full out, eyes wide open and live life to the hilt-----Go girl.

I feel for ya, I regarded the years I spent in New Jersey as a sentence that had to be served to get to a better place.  It all worked out eventually, as things tend to do.

Hugs, BEG.  This is always the worst part of moving...that "in between" stage.   As for the dogs, I feel your pain...2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 kids in a hotel room for 46 days...oiy.  Nightmare.   But I'm sure they will get used to the routine soon!

My wife ant I (and the kids) moved 13 times so far in our marriage (three of those overseas), and I can tell you that the more you do it, the easier it gets........we got to the point where we could sell our house, buy a new one, and move in about four weeks.......

You have to get organized........and ALWAYS buy a house with resale in  mind.......

Beg, October is only about 2 months away.  Wait to re-register the car.

Yeah, there's no real, honest-to-God cop waiting there at the border making note of your entrance visa to the People's Republic of Commiefornia. Just "delay" by a couple of months.

Hell, if the illegals are catered to like they are, surely Ah-nuld won't be paying attention to a couple of months of a new arrival who is still getting used to things there in the land of fruits and nuts.

No problem Beg, the biggest problems are with having to say good by to your friends and the kids loosing best friends---that is a tear jerkier.

Most of us go through this a a normal part of life, this is how we live, a different kind of life style from the average family.

Quirks come up, at least 3 times after moving to a new place trying to unpack and not loose the kids outside there is the telephone man come to hook up our phone.

Absolutely unbelievable that when they got every thing set up and in all cases the phone rang, there was my MOTHER on the phone.  At this point I had no idea what my new phone number was but my MOM managed to get through-----How did she do that ????

Not once, not twice but 3 times she did this, Momma Bears can do anything.

Looking back I have no idea how we did this moving all the time and not loosing a kid or 2 along the way.-----I came close a time or two as we drove coast to coast, just enough to scare the heck out of me.

One hint, if you hire a moving company, watch them close, they come in like a storm of locus and pack full ashtrays or greasy pots and pans on top of evening ware.

Good luck, have fun, go with no expectations, just take it as it comes, 30 years from now you will look back and mostly fun memories and wonder how you ever did it.

I wouldn't.  You'd be amazed how thuggish the cops are about registrations in CA.  Revenue, dontcha know.  They're not much better in NH.

Don't you just know that I remember going into Arizona from California  on rt 10 and having a stop point  of police and people, who ever they were, in uniform with guns,  went through my travel trailer and Blazer looking for fruit.

Yup they confiscated the bags or oranges I had packed for the kid to mow on.

Something about the spread of some insect back in the 1970's.

Funny side story, we, the 4 kids and our Saint Bernard were all in the Blazer [rear seat removed] and some of the people at that stop thought we had kidnapped a cow.  Same color and size of a small beef cow, He was a short haired breed. so all we could do was laugh as the cow barked at them.

Agricultural inspection stations?  Yeah, they still have them, but they're not as rigorously enforced.  The Med fly was the thing back in the day.

Nah, the only signs of real importance you'll see on the freeways lately are these:
