Had a chilling talk with my plumber:

I live in a county which has the distinction of being in the top five counties in the U.S. in terms of earned-interest income. Plumber was telling me about several elaborate underground bunkers he has been hired to do plumbing work on. All of them in remote parts of the properties, behind several coded gates and each one loaded to the gills with guns and ammo, food, marine toilets. Speaking with one paranoid he asked him, "Yeah, but if the government comes in here to get you won't you be lucky to squeeze off 10 rounds before they hit you with a flame thrower or bunker buster or something?" Said the guy basically had to agree.

20. Sounds like a state of delusion.

In another 20 years, their grand kids will be having pot parties in those bunkers. They have just about as much utility as the 1950s bomb shelters.

3. Let them hide in their bunkers

The best solution is to just plug the air vents.

Used to be just on the weekends. Now I hear them all week long. And I don't live near any legal outdoor gun ranges.

12. 2012-the end of the world for many

Ramtha-aka-JZ Knight(Washington state-Yelm)...has told her followers that they need to prepare and make underground bunkers that will house them and at least 2-4 years worth of food(many trying for 10 years)...and that is just one group...there are hundreds out there doing/thinking the same thing...Oh and the evil government and their grey men are coming for you and all you own.

Hmmm.  One wonders what the above was all about, but never mind.

13. what these folks don't understand is that we're all in this together . . . and we're either going to sink or swim collectively, not as individuals hiding in our own personal bunkers . . .

No, we aren't in all this together, given that the primitives have never taken the war against terrorism seriously.

Nebraska's too small a state to be bothered by terrorists, domestic or foreign, but in the case of massive civil disorder because of a terrorist attack, Nebraska's a likely destination for "refugees," millions of them flooding here from blue states.

This is a great place where I live in the Sandhills of Nebraska, and easily capable of supporting hundreds in various ways, if worse came to worse.

However, nobody's going to be let in unless young children or ancient people, and those who can show a voter-registration card identifying them as Republican.

No way is franksolich giving haven to Democrats, liberals, and especially not primitives.

21. Water

They all prepare for global disaster, but presume they'll still be able to pump water out of the ground. They can't begin to hope to store enough water. If one truly believes that all infrastructure will go to hell, they can quickly come to the understanding that you can't "go it alone". In the entire history of the human race, no one has ever successfully lived that way. Even nomads had to band together in small groups of 20 or so. Monks live in small groups. Even hermits and "guru's" usually have some supporters of some sort to engage the larger infrastructure. The old fallout shelters of the '50s were meant for a few days to a couple of weeks. It is pretty hard to create anything that could support you independently for a year or more.

Well, remember, when the primitives have one of their disaster bonfires, right after "pharmaceuticals," the primitives insist they're going to haul along toilet paper.

As if there's still going to be indoor plumbing after a catastrophic disaster.

17. probably they are less worried about the government

and more worried about the starving and lawless masses if society collapses.

In the 0bamareich, there's people starving?

I thought that all ended on January 20, 2009, which was quite a while ago.

The primitives promised us it would.

If memory serves, 2012 is the end of the ancient Mayan calendar - there are now several groups of people who accept at face value that 2012 marks the beginning of The End Of Days.

I believe the only people who should be concerned about 2012 are the Democrats. Once Obama leaves office, I suspect nobody will want another Democrat in office for a long, long time.

I don't have to pump water, except to my house.  Otherwise, I go to the spring and get it as it comes from the ground....

Besides, what self-respecting bunker resident isn't going to have a standby generator with several hundred gallons of gas ready.  You don't have to run them things 24/7.  An hour or 2 a day to pump water and do whatever else is enough....

DUmbasses have no idea how to be self-sufficient.  Good thing these people weren't the first pioneers, or we'd still be in England....

Also, no damned wonder they need the govt to wipe their noses and asses....

Americans have pumped countless millions of gallons of water from the ground without a single watt of electricity.
On the other hand, there have been crackpot end-of-world cults around since the beginning of recorded history.

Apparently, among the Mayans themselves, there was anything BUT a consistent view of what the Hell the end of the calendar cycle would mean.  It was only some groups of them that thought it would be cataclysm.  I'm not going to take the whole thing seriously until JPL starts tracking an inbound asteroid, Yellowstone starts smoking, or the icecap slides off Greenland.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Typically it would be nuclear anyway. Fallout is what will get us all, no matter where ya live.

Not necessarily, the whole shelter idea is based on a sound evaluation of how fast residual radiation degrades.  Due to long half-life isotopes in the food chain, life expectancies would be a lot shorter after global nuclear war, but those in areas only affected by fallout who can stay holed-up for a month actually have pretty good survival prospects.

And by the ways, DUmmies, we aren't all in this together, and shelters, refuges or redoubts are not meant to stand up to Government armed forces intent on breaking into them; if that happens, the people in them are indeed screwed.   But that's not what they're for anyway.

This reminds me of one of my favorite bonfires, just before the '04 election when they were sure the world would end if President Bush was re-elected. The DUmmies were discussing their elite survival skills such as how to find and forage inside abandoned grocery stores. One had a few admirers as he/she/it bragged that if all else failed, they were able to use an outdoor propane grill. Can you imagine the horror, being reduced to such base survival skills as using a propane grill?  :rotf:

What I've always found funny in primitive "plans" for disasters is their obsession with having a stockpile of toilet paper.

As if a disaster would leave indoor plumbing intact.

Me, I'm going to take along some True Temper shovels, spades, rakes, hoes, axes, and weed-cutters, those sorts of things.  And yes, the cats too.
