VANCOUVER, Wash. — The two adult children of former Vancouver police Officer Clyde Ray Spencer, who spent nearly 20 years in prison after being convicted of molesting them, testified in court Friday that the abuse never happened.

A 33-year-old son recalled how, at age 9, he was repeatedly questioned, alone, by now-retired Detective Sharon Krause, of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. He said that after months of questioning, he said he had been abused just to get Krause to leave him alone.

A 30-year-old daughter said she doesn't remember what she told Krause at age 5, but recalled Krause bought her ice cream.

The brother and sister, who live in Sacramento, Calif., said that while growing up in California they were told by their mother, who divorced Spencer before he was charged, that they were blocking out the memory of the abuse.

They said they realized as adults the abuse had never happened.

The fallout from Friday's hearing won't be known for months, after appellate judges weigh in. But the hearing does pave the way for the state Court of Appeals to allow Spencer to withdraw the no-contest pleas he entered in 1985 and have his convictions vacated.

Random snipits:

Quote
He was denied parole five times because he refused to admit guilt and enter a sex-offender treatment program.

Quote
He hired Seattle attorney Peter Camiel in the mid-1990s. Camiel and a private investigator uncovered disturbing facts about the investigation — including that prosecutors withheld medical exams that showed no evidence of abuse, despite Krause's claims that the children had been violently, repeatedly raped. Those discoveries led Gov. Gary Locke to commute Spencer's sentence in 2004.

Quote
Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Dennis Hunter wasn't ready to wave a white flag on Friday. He said if convictions are tossed, prosecutors could appeal to the state Supreme Court.

Quote
After the hearing, Spencer, who has received his doctorate in clinical psychology but cannot get his state license as long as he has a criminal record, said he will just have to wait and see.

I've read of other cases where the alleged perpetrator has been wrongfully convicted due to the interrogator's actions, leading the witnesses, and making "assumptions" with the children and their statements.

Social workers have to earn their wages and sometimes it is based on a report of abuse and how THEY found a way to  correct the problem.  A social worker who finds no problem too many times is accused of not looking hard enough and slacking off.

There are people who were abused themselves that go into social work and are on a witch hunt.

Then one gets the old Priest that has never married that councils young couples on marriage.

I remember the Mendez trial of the 2 boys that offed their family. Now that was a circus of
what we as the public knew and what the jury were told.

The spectacle of an 18 year old male on the wittiness stand crying that his father was at that time raping him----barf, barf--

The older brother complaining that his dad attended all his tennis matches and after a match massaged his legs to prevent leg cramps -Barf-barf.

Some people do in fact mollest their nearest and dearest, perhaps it is more common then not----however ----  some people get crazy with this if they are looking for a way to get at someone they just don't like.

Next town to me a couple who a small lottery, $200,000. Out of the blue people they had not seen in 10 years sued them saying the husband had molested their child while his wife baby sat for them.

Recovered memory's they called it, the child now 16 awoke one day and --TA-DA remembered what had happend to her at the age of 6.

I go back and forth on this issue, I had friends that were perhaps being molested, who knows, but I remember sleep overs when my friends would tell me not to go to the bathroom alone at night as their brother-father was at home.

As as only child this was most strange to me and when I mentioned it to my Mom she answered that perhaps they were afraid I would fall down the stairs in the dark.   Neither of us had any idea that molestation actually happends.

This man who spent 20 years in jail because his lawyer did not demand any physical evidence of trauma to his kids----God help him, and all men out there when accusations are brought up.

Just listened to this guys side of the story on a taped radio show. This has got to be the most disgusting behavior by a police department that I have ever heard of.

I have some personal experience with "child welfare". My daughter was having trouble with a math teacher when she was in jr. high. I called the guy to figure out what the problem was. Turned out he was a total ass!

I, being the diplomat that I am, told him I would not put up with his "shit". The guy told me he would not put up with that kind of language and hung up on me.

The next day DSHS removed my daughter from my home because this teacher informed them I "might" be abusing my daughter. Took us 3 days to iron it out and nothing was ever done about the asshole teacher who brought about the whole fiasco.

I did manage to get her transferred to another class the next week, but the mental BS she had to go thru took considerably longer.
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

Problem for your daughter down the line is if she runs afowl of a co-worker or neighbor and they get even by calling in a complaint on her and her kids, ----Some of these people are totally nuts.

My neighbor with 2 kids a stay at home Mom with husband in the service serving a 6 month tour away came to me for help.

An addled neighbor was convinced her husband had the hots for my neighbor.  She, we figure as we were never told who, called in the darndest accusations against her.

This woman had no family with in 2,000 miles and didn't socialize with but 2-3 neighbors--she was scared crap less.

For that reason I demanded I sit in on 2 interviews from social service workers.  I about fell over when the worker asked my friend  if she had been abused as a child herself. She denied that fact and responded that she had had a happy childhood.

The worker kept probing her to admit she was in denial!!!!

I later found out that there is a rule that when a child is mistreated they are the first to mistreat their own children.  At least that is how society believes things go.

These things cast long shadows for the children of the accused.  Had that neighbor given any indication she had a less then ideal childhood herself, I to this day believe things could have turned very ugly, fast.

The last home visit the worker came in with a paper they themselves had written out wanting the neighbor to sign.  It stated that the neighbor would buy more vegetables for the kids to eat, get a medical check-up once a year.  She refused to sign and the worker walked off in a huff.

About a month later the worker called her to tell her she HAD to sign the paper or they would take her to court.  She hung up on the worker.

That was it, she never heard one word from them again.

 :lmao:

Pssst, between just you and me Johnny, I was an abusive mother. I refused to sew on buttons from the kids clothing after they were 8 years old, about 2 years before that I stopped making their beds or doing their laundry.

Those poor kids, what a shame, they wore not only hand me downs but owned no name sneakers.

They were going to a church school so their school cloths were all new bought, suits for the boys, dresses for the girls, and dress shoes.

By the time the kids were 5 years old they knew how to shread lettuce and the older ones cut up the veges for salad.

Damn I was a lazy broad, weekends the kids vacuumed the house and cleaned the bathrooms.  When their  daddy worked on the car the boys and girls were forced to stand by to bring him tools, the 4 year old knew what a lug wrench was, bless her heart.

Yup-o I would take a book into the back yard and enjoy myself as my slave children were forced to fend for themselves at the approbate age.  -----The earliest the better--- do you know if you sit a 3 year old on the floor with a cold pot of potatoes and a masher, they have a ball squishing the potatoes up to be reheated for dinner.?

Read up on the Wenatchee Witch Hunt....pretty awful stuff.witch hunt

Nice advertising for tourists to visit Wenatchee, the place where 3 out of 4 people you meet are abusing their kids or the children of others under their control.

The people mentioned in the Witch Hunt link seem to have some very dark issues of their own.  They remind me of ex-drinkers or ex-smokers or those who find Jesus after a life of crime that preach to others not to do as they have done.

I take it from the story that this all started as a bid for job security for a few hundred workers including  local judges, the police, and state workers.

A feeding frenzy insused, no one was above suspicion except the people investigating the complaints.

On the other hand, those with children that watch the news and see valid complaints of abuse all over the country were now so paranoid they would believe anything.

We had those dreadfull  cases of  child care centers owners here in the north east make headlines when just one parent with issues over paying a bill snowballed into law suits, trials and in imprisonment of an old lady in a wheel chair.  How a woman who could not walk or needed help to dress themselves was convicted of child abuse boggles my mind.

Follow the money, follow the carear issues when it comes to the point that the only time in our American laws that reverse all else, one complaint and one is guilty until proved innocent.

I am trying to decipher your post Sparky,  how do you know anything about Pelosi's ass.   Botoxed, you say, darn that must be expensive, are we taxpayers paying for that ?

About Carol Shea-Porter---- I have heard by unconfirmed sources that she spends hours a day watching film footage of everything she can beg, buy or steal on Sara Paulin.

It is said she is letting her hair grow, practicing walking about with a book on her head and learning to wink on cue.
