Cinnamon works! I don't want to kill them, just get them out of my kitchen. Sprinkled cinnamon two hours ago: No more ants. I don't want to kill any animals. For my husband, I cook chicken on Friday night but would rather not. I even don't want to swat flies. I don't know when it happened, but my respect for life has gotten so strong. Is this pathological? Does anyone besides vegans feel the same way?

Ants get it on themselves, take it back to the nest, and give it to the queen.
The queen is thus poisoned, and dies, and with her, the colony.
Not a good thing if you merely want to keep ants away WITHOUT killing them.

Black Widows, Lynx Spiders and Jumping Spiders all love eating ants. The former are decent predators that will cut down on your nuisance.

And rattlesnakes will eliminate the rodents.
If you get that far, you get to use peacocks to eliminate the rattlesnakes. So a trade from ants to peacocks isn't such a bad deal afterall.

3. I feel just as you do.
I use cayenne to deter the little creatures. There are usually other solutions than killing if we are willing to look for them
I must admit fleas have been another matter. I refuse to use poisons, but I do kill them if they invade my space.

We have fire ants. I take a shovel full of ants from one anthill and put it in the another. They will fight each other to the death. Works every time.

We got an ant problem.  Called the exterminator and took them two weeks to get someone out here.  So we got ant traps in the mean time.  They worked like a charm.  Didn't see an ant after a day.  After the exterminator comes, they spray all around the house, and inside where we see the ants at.  They tell us to toss the traps because it interferes with their chemicals.  5 days later the ants are back.   :whatever:

I saw report of an experiment once, where a myriad of poisonous critters were all put together in the same box - rattler, scorpions, black widows, etc. etc., and red ants.  The experiment merely closed them in the same living space.

The sole survivors, after a mere 12 hours, was the red ants.

I wonder if it occurred to them that the best way to keep the ants out is to stop leaving food scraps and general garbage strewn throughout their Crash pad.

Personally, I prefer to rely on chemical weapon strikes to ensure the genocide of the ant race.

My grandma taught me to cornmeal is a good way to kill ants, especially if you put it by their hill.  The ants apparently can't properly digest the cornmeal, so it kills them.  There were a ton of dead ants where she had sprinkled the corn meal, so it seemed to work.  Good if you don't want a bunch of chemicals around your pets.

You probably had pharaoh ants.  The exterminator should have realized that.  You don't spray anything for the pharaoh ants as that will cause another colony to come about.  You should bait them as you were doing.

This thread is hilarious for someone who worked as a branch manager for Terminix for 4 years.  The DUmmie thread that is.

Same with my cat, as to the laser.  She loves chasing that thing.  All I have to do is pick the thing up, and she's right there, as its' chain has a distinctive rattle.
