House Dems: Panetta testified CIA has misled Congress repeatedly

WASHINGTON (CNN)  -- CIA Director Leon Panetta recently testified to Congress that the agency concealed information and misled lawmakers repeatedly since 2001, according to a letter from seven House Democrats to Panetta made public Wednesday.

The letter to Panetta, dated June 26, was published on the Web site of Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-California.

"Recently you testified that you have determined that top CIA officials have concealed significant actions from all members of Congress, and misled members for a number of years from 2001 to this week," said the letter, signed by Eshoo and six other House Democrats -- Reps. John Tierney of Massachusetts, Mike Thompson of California, Rush Holt of New Jersey, Alcee Hastings of Florida, Adam Smith of Washington and Janice Schakowsky of Illinois. The letter contained no details about what information the CIA officials allegedly concealed or how they purportedly misled members of Congress.

Perhaps now we are seeing why someone as unqualified as Panetta was installed as CIA chief.
He is a political hack that is now going to try to rewrite history to discredit the Bush administration and if he throws everyone in the CIA under the bus to do it then so what.

This is disgusting but right on par with everything else in this current administration.

This is the reason we have laws, not that we all will abide by them, We push the envelope as people as far as we can.

Horseshit, vesta.  Panetta smacked down Pelosi quite publicly.  No doubt Panetta has been brought back onto the reservation and reminded his is a POLITICAL appointment, hence his about-face on the issue.

And as far as any Dem president giving two shits about national security?  I give you the following:

Clinton--Toricelli amendment.

It was necessary for Panetta to back stab the CIA in order to make the democrats immune from a Bush Admin Prosecution.
This is just step one to the banana republic credo: Prosecute your predecessors.

In the book "Party of Defeat" they pretty well document that they also misled the President to cover their butts for doing such a lousy job of intelligence gathering.  We have to be careful because the president saw what congress saw according to the book which is hundreds of footnotes documenting thier facts.

Unfortunately it's a subtle and slower process, like the way they eventually let all the cats out of the bag about how much Stansfield Turner and Jimmuh had hosed up the CIA and destroyed their entire SW Asia HUMINT operations because the Dipshit Twins thought they could collect all the intel they'd ever need with satellites.
