Houston Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee's attempts to honor Michael Jackson with a congressional resolution are facing firm opposition at the highest level: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The San Francisco Democrat who presides over the House declared this morning that she did not plan to bring Jackson Lee's resolution honoring Jackson as an international humanitarian to the House floor for a vote.
Her reasoning: She didn't want to open up a congressional debate on the seamier side of the pop icon's life.
She said that House members have every opportunity to "express their sympathy" for Jackson. But a formal resolution with debate on both sides of the aisle is a different story.
