Free Kitty
« on: July 08, 2009, 08:04:41 PM »
My mother in law trapped a little tiny kitten in her garden tonight*.  It is a little puff of grey with white paws.  It is very feral and will likely try to eat your eyeballs for dinner.  Will probably attempt to climb your leg with its little tiny claws and poo on your hair.  It is really cute though!  I brought it home and have it sealed up in my bathroom until the humane society opens tomorrow.  I wish I could take it out and hug and kiss it but if it bites me they have to gas it. :bawl:

I took one over to the HS yesterday.  It was much more tame than this one and I thought it was even more cute.  If I didn't already have 2 cats I would get it all fixed up and bring it back home.  This one scared the living crap out of my adult female cat.  She ran and hid when it cried at her.  She is so motherly. :-)  My doggy looks like she wants to be the mommy but she is a wuss and this kitty would eat her for a snack.

*Before anyone yells at me for the trapping thing...  Someone in the neighborhood has been feeding the stray cats.  There are cats everywhere and kittens too.  Kittens keep getting killed by cars, dogs, and being outside and sickly.  I am trying to save these cats and get them adopted if possible.  I would like to punch the people who keep feeding the strays instead of taking them to the humane society or the free spaying clinic.

We had that same situation...tried to trap the mother cat to get her spayed, but never managed.  They all disappeared a couple years ago...don't know if the coyotes came in, or a neighbor took it upon himself to do something.

You have free clinics there? I can't find one here. Cheapest I can find is 35 bucks to neuter a cat and that's if you 'meet income requirements'. The cheapest I found for us to get them neutered and shots is 90 something bucks.

You are doing the right thing, mamacags. People really need to make more of a effort to get animals fixed and find good homes for them. Also, from recent personal experince, get them tags and get those chips inplanted so their will be less lost pets. SPCA does it for a reasonable price and it is worth it to get your lost pet home.

There is one free clinic here.  They have a ton of rules.  At the humane society it is $65 for a cat to get all of the shots and fixed.  The one I took in today will most likely have to be put to sleep because it was too wild to handle. :bawl:  The one I took in 2 days ago will be put up for adoption though.  There are still more in the woods.  I hope I get all of the kittens before it is too late.

I found out one of the neighbors over there is shooting them.  They are such dirtbags they probably do it for entertainment.

Struggling to take the six dogs that wandered into our life into someplace where they have a chance of finding a home (slim chance, but chance nonetheless).

On Sunday, a pack of six dogs (actually a bitch and her 5 pups, which are about 4 months old), waltzed onto my property and seeing that they all looked extremely ragged, we decided to feed, water, de-tick, and bathe them.

The've been in our back yard (the runt can get through the fence openings she's so small) ever since.

They've definitely responded to the food and water and human contact. There's not a dog among them that is terribly fearful or aggressive. They all are great dogs and deserve a chance.

Problem is, the freakin' Humane Society is closed today and tomorrow. It's a kill shelter, but there's not much we can do about that. There are only two other no-kill shelters in the area and they keep banker's hours.

Couple all that with the fact that recently, there was a multi-state bust on dog fighting operations and the shelters are swimming in dogs right now.

There was a huge raid in north Texas too. A puppy mill with hundreds of dogs, mostly miniature and toy varieties

When they talked about these raids on Fox & Friends one morning, they implied some smaller dogs are used to train the fighters how to kill.  that is just sick.  Those AHoles should be smeared in beef drippings and thrown into cages with nearly starved dogs.

Two years ago, I was up at the deer camp I belong to, in the offseason.  We were doing some maintenance on the logging roads, cutting firewood for the season hence; that sort of stuff.  About 1/4 mile from the camp, one of the guys and I were riding in his pickup, and I looked into a drainage ditch and saw a black-and-white cat staring back at me.  (Our cat is black-and-white.)  I said something to the driver, who didn't hear me right off, but we stopped the truck about 30 yards up the road.  Got out in time to see the cat run like Hell into the woods.  It was probably a feral cat, but it really got to me, as coyotes will go out of their way to kill and eat cats if they can find them.  A couple of relatives of mine who deer hunt told me that I should have shot it if I had the chance.  Not going to happen, at least by me.

Surprised that a-hole noone hasn't posted this:

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

A couple or three months ago, one of the feral cats that hang out around the house had kittens. There were four of them. About the time they were ready to be weaned, we went and took them all and put them in a large cage. We fed and watered them, kept them safe and one almost died because of a play toy on a string. We let them go, all except one. He is really friendly. The one that almost died was drug back to the porch by it's mother this morning. She is another friendly kitty. As of now, they're both in the house. The other two are mean, for some reason. They're outside, someplace, maybe.
