Bottled water regulation to be considered on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON (CBS) - Is the bottled water we drink as safe as tap water?

The answer a Congressional panel will hear today is that no one really knows because bottled water isn't regulated.

Americans drink an enormous amount of bottled water -- billions of bottles, every year.  And while there is strict federal regulation of the water that comes out of your tap, you generally can't find out where the water in those plastic bottles comes from or what's in it.

Several disturbing reports will be released at the Congressional hearing, focusing on whether tougher regulation of bottled water is needed.  One report will look at whether any dangerous chemicals may leach in from the plastic bottles.

As we all know, with regulation , comes a price increase in some form or another. This won't affect me much since I drink filtered tap water.

Yeah, tap water has fluoride in it, along with other evil nasties. Bottled water doesn't usually contain fluoride, so the Govt loses some control over the masses. The fluoride that's in our tap water is a waste by-product from factories. It also tends to make people  more "docile".

Talk about ponzi schemes or fraud. These factories have all of this fluoride waste to get rid of and the government buys it from them to put in our tap water under the premise that the fluoride is good for one's teeth. Fluoride may be good for one's teeth, but not this waste that's being sold to us.
