Poll question: Do You Support the Increasingly Frequent US Strikes in Pakistan?   Updated at 8:17 AM
   
US drones, thought to be flown by the CIA have been sending missiles into Pakistan for nearly a year now. Two strikes have occurred in the last 24 hours, 5 in the last two weeks--one of which may have killed up to 80 at a funeral. The targets seem to be Baitullah Meshud, the Pakistani Taliban leader, and his training camps.

Pakistan is also firing on Meshud, with the intention of ground troops moving in later. Although Pakistan denies they are working with the US, and 'protests' the drone strikes, it appears they are a concerted effort.


The question is: Do you support US drone strikes in Pakistan?

hmmm yet no calls for impeachment or frogmarching Obama to the Hague. :confused:

At least 40 people have been killed in a suspected US missile strike in north-west Pakistan, local officials say.

They told the BBC three suspected US drones had fired missiles at militants near Ladha in South Waziristan.

It is the third such strike in two days in the area. An attack earlier on Wednesday and one on Tuesday killed at least 19 people, reports said.

The attacks are targeting a stronghold of Pakistan's top Taliban commander, Baitullah Mehsud, in South Waziristan.

US officials believe he is providing both the Taliban and al-Qaeda with a refuge in the region. They are offering a reward of $5m for his capture.

There have been dozens of drone strikes since last August, killing hundreds of militants and civilians.

As of Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at least 646 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

Of those, the military reports 479 were killed by hostile action.

Far be it for me to defend L'il 'B but...

...what war crime? Can I get a specific statute here?

Methinks this idjit is upset about about the US crossing into Cambodia unannounced to kill commies that crossed into Cambodia unannounced and this is the best he can do to muster "intellectual continuity".

The code-pinkos aren't really anti-war, just anti-American. Now that there is a socialist in the White House that is trying to change America to fit their ideals there is no need to protest.

There are no statutes on war crimes, they are breaches of customary international law, generally as it may be memorialized by treaties like Geneva/Hague or similar.  The Nuremburg and (More geographically widespread) Japanese war crimes trials after WWII are the big point of reference and were based on three categories of crime - crimes against peace (Conducting wars of aggression), crimes against humanity (genocide, ethnic cleansing, etc.) and breaches of the law of war (Geneva/Hague stuff - reprisals against civil populations, execution/mistreatment of prisoners, purposely targeting civilians, etc.).
