Several things against Sotomayor: On video as "making law from the bench", her decisions seem to often overturned, her overt racism/sexism. I hope that she doesn't get appointed, but, if she does, I don't think it will hurt the balance right now. I don't care for the woman's attitudes, period.

I agree with Thor. I will add, though, that because she is such a lightweight, she will pretty much look like an idiot compared to Alito, Scalia, Thomas, and Roberts. So maybe liberalism will take a hit in the opinion of the public. Or, less likely, the conservatives will talk her into voting in ways she would not ordinarily (but I doubt it). And somebody said she may be (relatively) pro-life. So far, those are the only silver linings I can see.

Thumbs down by 88%? Sounds about right to me - where did they find all those sane people for that poll?

I do think she'd dumb down the SCOTUS if she is appointed - Souter was kind of creepy, but he wasn't as dumb as a bag of hammers. I hope the ruling yesterday ruins her nomination, but it might not. If not, the silver lining would be the opinions she'd write from her unique Latino woman perspective.  :whatever:
