I just killed all of our fish....AGAIN
« on: June 26, 2009, 03:41:28 PM »
I was just going to top off the pond and I forgot about it and left the water on too long.  When you over fill a pond too much chlorine gets in it (chlorine kills fish), you are suppose to use this stuff that takes the chlorine out of the water but I didn't use it because I originally thought I was going to leave the water on for a few minutes (which normally isn't a problem unless you leave it on too long like I did).  I took a bucket and got some of the water out (about 20 buckets full) but it wasn't enough.  To make matters worse (worse than me feeling like shit for killing our Koi) is that the buyers wrote into the contract that they wanted the fish.   :uhsure:  So tomorrow we have to go buy new Koi.  The Koi had gotten fairly large over the past year so we will have to spend some bucks on new ones.  The inspection is tuesday so we have to get them in the pond by the end of the weekend.

I feel like such an idiot.   :thatsright:

Can't you put little balloons in them and weight them down so they look like they are still swimming around?

Sorry to hear that.

I killed a koi this weekend, my pump failed and one died before I could replace it.  It was one of those things where I was set to go to the store that day but excrescence happened and the next morning it was too late for one of the fish.

Sorry about your Koi.  One is left.  An all white Koi that was bread in Japan.  I thought for sure that one would be the first to go as it looks all delicate (it's a butterfly Koi).  I hope when we buy the new ones they wont notice the size because I am not spending $75 per fish (5 of them).  I also hope they didn't pay too close attention to the colors.

Go get those really big goldfish....can't think what they are called, but they look very similar to koi, are a whole lot cheaper and come in a variety of colors.

I had koi that kept disappearing....after the first time I replaced them...the guy at the aquarium store told me to get the goldfish..they were just as great to have.

After they disappeared .....I didn't replace them.....because I saw the blue heron out stalking around the pond/pool area looking for more.... :banghead:

Are they comet goldfish?  Or do they stay relatively small?  Two people recommended comet goldfish to me a few years ago but I couldn't remember what to ask for when I went to the pet store and ended up with koi.

Honestly can't remember what they were called. The ones I bought were about 5-8" long. They didn't have a chance to get bigger....the heron got them  :bawl:

They were really neat though....I'd walk over to the pond, shake the container with the food in it (kibble-like stuff) and they'd all come to the surface waiting to grab something before another one got it. I had 7 of them.

Everything has been resprayed.

Speaking of spray, I've been on a bit of a wasp and nest-killing rampage lately. Hunt 'em down in the early evening, when they're bedded down for the night.  :evillaugh:

I've found that gun oil works the best. Haven't had any deer in the garden for 3 years. For some reason they think it has to do with huntin' season.

Sorry you killed your poor fish!

Any luck finding a house out in Kaliforniatan?

Wait...BEG you are moving to  California?  Please take my advice and reconsider, been here on and off the last 24 years and I am looking to leave permanently and ASAP for AZ, UT, NV or CO.  Things are bad and about to get a lot worse in the "Golden State".
