Help!..Young friends of mine stranded in Texas after Wal-Mart ruined their van!
   
Some young friends of mine are stranded, in Amarillo, Texas, after the local Wal-Mart left the oil out of the oil change that the kids had done at the Wal-Mart service center. Their van engine died due to no oil put in during the Wal-Mart “oil change”. Wal-Mart has put them up in a local hotel, but will do no more for them.
They were told they would be arrested if they returned to the Wal-Mart.

We’re talking about four people, in their early twenties, tribal hippie types with dreadlocks etc., and three doggies. They have been threated by locals.

We’re afraid something bad is going to happen to them. They are trying to get to Louisville, KY, or Manchester, TN.

Can anyone can offer any advice or help with this? I’m really worried about these kids. I think they need a lawyer in the area to help them fight Wal-Mart on this.

I'm calling some serious on quite a bit of this story.

On the other hand, this sounds like a case of those idiots that are "stranded" at a gas station in Augusta, or elsewhere, who come up to you and say, "can you spare 10 dollars? Wife, in her infinite wisdom, let the local WAL-MART change oil in her car after I expressly instructed her not too. Not only did they use the wrong oil but it was the only oil they had...... ......and they over tightened the oil plug, cracking the aluminum oil pan on her car. It was 3 quarts lite, skipping, knocking and 2 weeks later before I discovered it.....or more like, she was beside the road telling me something was wrong with her car......it was another week before she admitted it was WAL-MART that changed her oil.

And no I didn't jump on the internet first and tell the world. Niether did I call WAL-MART....after 3 weeks time, what's the use.

I worked for a NAPA for 12 years and every service station around had insurance to deal with this type of thing.
We sold (not me) a customer a wrong oil filter and it caused an engine failure.
It didn`t seal and the oil pumped out.

Our insurance bought the replacement engine.

This is flat out horse shit with the real details left out of the story like small children always do when they eff up and try to blame someone else.

Anywhere I have my oil changed, if I don't witness the act, I require to read the dipstick before the truck is moved - even at Walmart.

The last time I went there for an oil change the idiot didn't do it because he didn't know where to put the oil. So I borrowed a friends driveway and did it myself.

Question for you guys. Why is it when you see a woman doing any sort of auto maintenance you all have to rush over to instruct??

My wife knows how to check/add oil and to add fluid to the windshield washer fluid container. As for under car work, she comes in handy because she knows which tools are which, and can hand them to me. I'm not saying that she wouldn't do some of the other stuff, but she wouldn't want to.

My wife knows how to check/add oil and to add fluid to the windshield washer fluid container. As for under car work, she comes in handy because she knows which tools are which, and can hand them to me. I'm not saying that she wouldn't do some of the other stuff, but she wouldn't want to.

Beyond checking her oil and adding it once in a while,"Toots" absolutely refuses to work on our autos. She's pretty sure that is the man of the hoiusehold who takes care of it.

This is BS! I can't believe the shop didn't start the motor in order to fill the oil filter and check the level afterwards. Never seen anyone do it any other way. The damn thing had to be rattling like all get out, if it didn't have any oil at all!

I call BS! Wouldn't surprise me if these hippy types didn't invent this in order to soak the DUmmie for some cash.

Well, shit.  We don't want them here either.  Damn Bonaroo... freakin' hippie loser magnet.  If your car can't make it from Amarillo to Nashville, you probably should have stayed home.

And as far as those oil change places are concerned, I will stand there and watch them work on my car... I don't give a damn what any of their policies say.  One of those places lost my oil cap and stuck on a cap from another car.

If Walmart ruined their engine, Walmart will replace it.  Their only problem is to prove that Walmart screwed up.  Apparently they did, because they put them up in a hotel.  (I hope they know how to use the shower and actually USE it.)

My step-son's girlfriend had her oil changed at Walmart, and they stripped the threads in the oil pan.  (The only reason I can think of this happening is because they used an air wrench to tighten the plug.  I've done fleet maintence on 6 one-ton trucks, each getting an average of an oil change a month, for 15 years, and not 1 stripped oil drain plug.)

Walmart replaced the oil pan on her Beetle, which cost Wallyworld $672 for the pan, $97 for the gaskets, and $200 labor....
