CHAOS IN ALBANY: GOP Coup Upsets Balance In Senate

ALBANY (CBS) ― Republicans, who lost control of the New York State Senate last November have apparently regained control, and without an election!

The GOP power play involves two renegade Democrats and a billionaire businessman.

Welcome to New York politics.

What happened Monday night in Albany, a coup in the state Senate five weeks in the making, made for a unique kind of drama, pitting Senate Democrats against Republicans.

*snip*

How did it happen? Democrats can thank their own: Pedro Espada of the Bronx and Hiram Monserrate of Queens, who turned their backs on their fellow Democrats and joined with Republicans.

Dims got beat at their own game.  All they could do is turn out the lights and run.   :whatever:

As someone at the DUmp pointed out though, the Republicans controlled the senate for 43 years prior to this.  Look at the state of things in New York.  I wouldn't exactly be looking at this like some second coming.

True, but I wonder if the DUmmies can tell us how many rainbows and ponies have been issued in the last 5 months.   :fuelfire:   :-)

The "problem" has been in the house. aSSEMBLYMAN Silver a DEMOCRAT has run the DEMOCRAT controlled assembly for decades now. If you don't go along with the insane DEMOCRAT  SILVER nothing gets done. This has rersulted in the State going so deep in debt, second only to Cali-phone-ya. The Republicans STUPIDLY, AS USUAL, WENT ALONG TO "GET" their crumbs off the Assembly DEMOCRATS table.

Nothing will change until SILVER is GONE.

Chaos Rules The Day In The Capital District

ALBANY (CBS) ― Aftershocks of the New York State Senate shake up were rippling through the state capital Tuesday. With all the chaos, confusion and hard feelings, many in Albany are wondering who's in charge and what happens next?

Less than a month ago, Democrats and Republicans posed like one big happy family for their class picture, but a dramatic coup to depose Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith has left everybody in Albany with a lot of hard feelings.

"I think it's absolutely disgusting, a side show," Smith spokesman Austin Shaffran said. "Senate Republicans should be ashamed."

Smith didn't show his face Tuesday, but sources said legal action is being considered to stop Republican Dean Skelos from becoming majority leader and renegade Democrat Pedro Espada from becoming speaker pro tem, one step away from being governor.

*snip*

"I'm hoping by 3 p.m. tomorrow the former majority leader will realize we have to move on and start working," said Sen. Tom Libous, R-Binghamton.

Republican senators said it's unconstitutional for Democrats to keep the door locked.

The NY dims don't even realize how they're embarassing their party.  Maybe they should try stamping their little feet and holding their breath until they turn blue.  Yeah, that'll show 'em.
