Mother Judged 'Too Stupid' To Keep Her Daughter

IQ of 71?  She'd be a freekin genius at DemocratUnderground.com - and some of them have children (who accidentally escaped the womb alive).

While I joke about this sometimes, something about this just reeks of wrong.  Has the woman actually done anything to garner this, other then get a low score on an IQ test?

The social services agency didn't believe that one to two hours a day, visiting her child which was in the ICU was enough.

I'm personally awash in the same concerns as you, it's a dangerous precedent and disturbing possibility.

Different IQ tests scale their scores in different ways, but with a SD of 10 (as seems to be the case from the article) this woman is nearly as far from normal as a certified genius is - in the other direction, of course.  Don't know that that makes her too stupid to raise a child, but she certainly is exceptionally dumb.

unmarried, unemployed, was not married to the father, no skills, who as 40 years older than her and is not involved at all, seemed uncaring for the kid at the time it was in the hospital.....

All these are results of the IQ of 71.

I think I would side with the judge on this.
