I Was Fooled by DU
   
I joined DU a bit over two years ago. I thought I had found a message board full of folks who shared my views on civil liberties and the rule of law - a bastion of small d democracy and all that. It sure seemed like a majority did.

But so much changed after Obama won. These issues seem to matter so much less now. In recent months I've come to realize that I'm in the minority here on issues like government accountability and free speech. Few seem to worry about such things under our new administration. And now the insistence that right-wing pundits are complicit in the murder of Dr. Tiller have driven this point home yet again.

I realize now that many of the people howling about civil liberties, torture, rendition, secret wiretapping, unitary executive, etc for the last eight years were in fact not doing so out of some deeply held belief in the underlying principles of freedom. They were instead simply hopping on the civil liberties bandwagon out of Party loyalty and hate for Bush/Cheney. The underlying necessity of the Bill of Rights to a functioning democracy does not appear to be widely grasped.

Kind of disappointing. But we soldier on. Maybe this all provides a "teaching moment?" Or whatever.

Maybe T2Tell is a younger person, USA? Might have started over there as a naive 2nd year college student, perhaps really never thinking critically him or herself. A couple of years have passed and now the leadership is 'theirs' and this younger person can see for the first time that it was all about politics from the get go and had nothing at all to do with a belief in the freedoms recognized by the Constitution. Could be an epiphany moment. Once he/she takes it from Du and applies it on a larger scale, he/she is likely to become less and less liberal in the DU sense. I applaud T2Tell for having the honesty to think with a critical eye and then the balls to admit they were wrong. Bravo.

The howling minions on the island redefine whatever word they need to justify and rationalize their hypocrisy...."censorship can only be by the government or media not them" in this case.

The same goes for words like "racism" and "crimes" when it is applied to political opponents.

Respect is earned as a result of admired behavior and acomplishments .It isn't to be demanded just because of your sex.Some woman just as some men are not worthy of respect because of their foul nature and their lack of consideration of others.

I find that I admire some woman for their beauty but disapprove of their behavior, obviously I don't respect them .The days when woman were treated with automatic respect and defference because of their sex are largely gone .

I admire and respect a few famous woman ,Margeret Thatcher,Barbra Bush,Laura Bush and a few others  but I don't admire or respect Cliton or his wife and most other political types in America Conservative or Liberal.

Feminists now demand both respect and absolute power over men and have little reason to receive either from them .

I was led to believe that Feminists had no need of men and were more powerful than men but somehow that has changed .Woman now demand that men meet their terms and always allow them every advantage in any competition and allow them to exceed them in business because of their innate antii woman bias .

Well, I doubt the $1.37 they carry around in their wallets is going to make much of an impact.  But aside from that, why should Fox pull BOR?  Why?  I don't sit around demanding MSNBC pull Keith.  That's their business decision, and that's it.  I'm not a stakeholder in that company.  Go belly-up, who cares?
