Maybe if we had just let them do this from the start, instead of driving them billions and billions into debt of the government, then their restructuring would have been a lot more beneficial to America.  Instead, we now have just thrown away 10's of billions of dollars, and the company is gonna be a shell of it's former self.  Way to go Obamanomics.

It has turned out exactly as it was suppose to.  This is not a failure.  The UAW has all the cake and the frosting too.

Forget all you think about right and wrong, logic and fairness.  Forget that a strong corporation would be good for the UAW's future.  That's poppycock talk.  They want it NOW.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

From: "wane.com breaking news " <newsdept@wane.com>

DETROIT (AP/WANE) -- General Motors Corp. says it will permanently close nine more plants and idle three others to trim production and labor costs under bankruptcy protection.  The Fort Wayne truck assembly plant is not on the list.  Parts plants in Marion, Indiana and Defiance, Ohio are also not on the list.

Assembly plants in Pontiac, Mich., and Wilmington, Del., will close this year, while plants in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Orion, Mich., will shut down production but remain on standby.

Powertrain plants in Livonia, Flint and Ypsilanti Township, Mich. will close next year, along with plants in Parma, Ohio, and Fredericksburg, Va.

Stamping plants in Indianapolis and Mansfield, Ohio, also will close. A stamping plant in Pontiac, Mich., will be idled but remain in a standby capacity.

GM says it will also close service and parts warehouses in Boston, Jacksonville, Fla., and Columbus, Ohio, by the end of this year.

The banks had nothing to do with this , you cat crap smelling moron. GM is a failed company that poor management and poorly negotiated union contracts has cause to fail.  They should have been allowed to fail months ago, but Dear Leader wanted the chance to nationalize one of the remaining industries in the US. In fact if anyone is forcing this bankruptcy at this time , it is Dear Leader.

Just watch for him to find some way of getting his hooks into Ford Motor Company also.  I  can see this happening through the crap the unions have traditionally pulled on the auto makers of forcing one company to settle a contract, and then basically forcing the others into the same one.  Sure, for now the unions have given some minor concessions, but we know 0Bama will reward them soon enough, and then Ford will be forced to follow suit.

The death knell for the US auto industry happened decades ago. Four specific issues killed it. (short version)

Management - When Management went to a launch and leave approach on car models, it did not endear itself to it's customers. It's arrogance toward Honda and Toyota allowed the Japanese to make entry into the American auto market. (Remember Iacocca's famous retort that GM and Chrysler would bury Honda?)
American auto manufacturers were slaves to an overextended lines of marginal autos with little or no appeal to the consumer.

Unions - when a healthy 43 year old could retire with full benefits and a healthy pension, it destroyed the balance sheet. I know of too many retirees that pursued this option only to start second careers and additional retirement benefits.

Government over regulation of the industry as a whole led to a competitive disadvantage by foreign auto makers. japan heavily invested in Toyota and Honda and sought protections here in the States to undercut American auto manufacturing.

The final death blow was the creation of the job bank in 1990 for auto workers that received full pay and benefits for being unemployed.

It isn't over.........the 21,000 soon to be laid off workers, I have have empathy for the stress heading their collective way.

Ford, for everything it's done, is now at a distinct competitive disadvantage because Government Motors will now have a huge conflict of interest in government bidding for auto contracts...You think that each and every contract is going to be tilted toward the UAW controlled businesses in order to alleviate the outstanding debt?

We can't afford four years of Obama.

Someone needs to stop embarrassing himself.

I think maybe if the name you CHOOSE to go by is "Stinky the Clown" embarrassing yourself is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week type deal.

Then blame UAW and their greed as much as GM's. UAW is doing to GM what the unions did to Eastern and other great airlines of years gone by. No more competition so you get less services.

Then write a scathing letter to Dear Leader and ask them why he *forced* them into a June 1st deadline.  But until you start ripping B. Hussein like you did GWB, your emotional outbursts are less than impressive.

The answer, as it is in all situations, is to tax and spend, regulate and subsidize, and to... blame Bush.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
