What right do we have to board and inspect North Korean ships?

I can only imagine the outrage that would erupt if Russia or China were to board a US ship headed towards Israel (or any other country) to inspect it for weapons. Yet this is exactly what we're doing with North Korea. Is it any wonder that North Korea feels threatened, when we're running roughshod over their sovereignty?

IF we want to go that route, then we should at least get a UN resolution authorizing it.

Otherwise, what's to stop Russia & China from stopping and inspecting US ships the next time there's a Israeli-Gaza conflict? They could very well make the same arguments that we're making.

Hmm you mean we should do what * did prior to him starting his "illegal war"  :whatever:

North Korea has said that the armistice ending hostilities is no longer in force, I'd say that gives the US/SoKo the right to sink those ships instead of boarding them.  :fuelfire:

I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure we already have a UN resolution reguarding the shipment of weapons or nuclear material to Iran, asshats!

He throws a nuke at us or Japan and we'll end up not only apologizing for forcing the Chia Pet to use a nuke...but we'll GIVE him South Korea as reparations.

I won't bring it over, but one of the DUmmies actually had a correct response. Give Japan the green light to arm themselves and provide for their own security. I think that over the past 60+years that they've sufficiently proven that they can now be trusted........at least in comparison to all the other asshats in that part of the world. The Chinese are skiddish of the Japanese (with good reason), so would probably do a little arm-twisting on N. Korea to ease Japan's fears and keep them from developing their own nukes.
Never demand that which you are incapable of taking by force, DUmmie.

And waiting one second past the announcement would be one second to long. The North has been pulling shit on the DMZ for years. Two months before  I was due to come back stateside the North Koreans decided to take a few shots at the South Koreans across the DMZ with their machine guns. The North lost 9 troops to the Souths 0.

They may have a large army but what have they done besides march down the street in front of Dear Leader? It wouldn't be long for them if China and Russia both sat this one out.

They've got the largest force of Special Ops troops of any country in the world.  Whether or not their conventional forces are top notch, between their missiles, and infiltrated Spec Ops, things would get stupid nasty.

That may not matter very much.  Their special ops troops may only be as good as our regular infantry.  All of their combat systems are severely outdated.  General Franks, who was once commander of all US Forces in Korea, stated that the problem, as he saw it, was surviving the first barrage long enough to shoot back.  He disagreed with the notion that it was a given that the Norks could run over South Korea.

I think you are right. Still, I would hate to see a nuclear arms race in east Asia, which would happen, if the Chinese do not put pressure on North Korea to cease and desist.

I'm pretty positive the Japs have everything they need to deal with N. Korea. They may not advertise it, but they are extremely self serving. For them NOT to have nuclear weaponry would be a major surprise to me.

Their constitution forbids things like that.  But, I would not want to be on the receiving end of their "attention."  They have an excellent destroyer force in their navy, and have always had an excellent destroyer force with excellent weapons (the "Long Lance" torpedo of WWII, for one).  Their air force is pretty good, as well.

I think I saw something a couple of years ago, that speculated that if the Japanese suddenly "needed" to "get" a nuclear weapon, that they could do it in a matter of months.  They certainly have the brainpower, and the hatred of the North Koreans--not to mention the Red Chinese.  They've already told Taiwan that they would send their destroyer forces to aid Taiwan in a conflict with the mainland.  And one of their latest "destroyers" looks suspiciously like a Tarawa-class amphibious landing ship, which could certainly operate the navalized version of the F-35 (which Japan is going to build under license).
