What would be your test for the suitability of a Judge for higher bench?
If you were to pick one one standard (hopefully a measurable one) by which to judge a Judge what would it be? My choice would be how many of their decisions had been overturned by higher court. What's yours?

Sotomayor has had 60% of her decisions reversed by the USSC. Is this what you mean?

5. Sonia Sotomayor is an EXCELLENT Choice For the Supreme Court

If someone were to ask me, "Do you think Sonia Sotomayor is a good pick for the Supreme Court?", I would say, "YES YES YES".

She has all the characteristics of a GREAT Supreme Court Justice. She has roots among the common people. She is well-educated. She is devoted to the cause of Justice FOR ALL. She is empathetic and sympathetic.

She is the COMPLETE opposite of the two "justices" who were appointed by the illegal and totally corrupt Bush/Cheney regime of thugs and cronies -- Scalia and Roberts. They are -- BOTH OF THEM! -- little more than right-wing hacks who are likely in the employ of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy to Deny Poor People and Minorities Their Civil Rights!

Once again, our Beloved President Barack Obama has shown himself to be a man who really cares for the down-trodden and the oppresseed (such a welcome change after eight long dreary years of the tyrannical nightmare known as the Bush/Cheney misadminstration). President Obama is, indeed, bringing us closer to the day when there will be peace, prosperity, gender equality, justice, and love.

If a judge takes people's stories (outside the realm of the suit in front of them) they are in violation of their oath.

28 U.S.C. § 453

"I, _________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as _________ under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God."

You don't want a judge who by definition violates their oath do you?

Of course DUmmies want just that. The Constitution should be open for debate, and used only as a guideline along with feelings, fairness and empathy, and anti-business views.

So what the DUmmies are saying is: Roe v Wade expires as soon as 51% of Americans declare themselves pro-life?

When does the 13th Amendment get re-interpreted? I got yardwork backing-up.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Well, at minimum one should at least have read and understand the constitution. I'm not sure this stupid cow has. I can call her a stupid cow because I'm a woman too. I'm calling the woman part of her a stupid cow, not the hispanic part.

I've seen a few news articles about her bemoaning her inadequate salary, so that could be a possibility.  Wouldn't that be a kicker if that sinks her?  It used to be enough to stop a political nomination... maybe not so much anymore thanks to hope and change.

I have no doubt that she's read the Constitution, and has made all necessary changes to her copy, either by writing in the margins or by applying White-Out. Actually, my guess is that she's very fond of White-Out.

What would be your test for the suitability of a Judge for higher bench?

One that doesn't let their ethnicity and race influence their decisions as Judge Sotomayor has admitted.

So what you're saying is, if she comes in singing, "Feelings...nothing more than feelings..." in spanish, she's history, huh.....works for me.

1. Not a racist or in a racist organization like...I don't know...um  maybe LA RAZA.

2. Someone that looks at the law without preconceived concepts and empathy....you know BLIND justice.

3. Someone that actually does defend the Constitution and not one that works to make policy (laws) from the bench.

I'm funny that way.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Exactly right!
And one who has had 60% of her decisions reversed is  NOT SUITED for the Supreme Court.

Hi,

I think justice Roberts said it best.  I will apply the Constitution in making my decisions.  If the Constitution says the little guy wins, then he will.  If it says the big guy wins, then he wins....

In other words, I want a justice that understands their job is to intrepret the laws, and it is the job of Congress to make the laws, and the Constitution has provisions for the PEOPLE to amend it.....and it is the job of the people, not the judges to do so.

regards,
