Sorry, Mancow, but the feeling that something is happening when it isn't doesn't constitute torture.  You were able to walk away with no physical harm done.  When it comes down to it, we aren't going to win a war on terror without adopting some of terrorism's own tactics, anyway.  Terrorism is a mindset, an idea.  The only way to defeat an idea is to kill the impulse in the mind to act on it before can be acted out.  The consequences of terrorism to the terrorist, his family, his village, have to be so swift, merciless, and devastating that no one in their right mind would even consider it.  The KGB understood this.

We are going in the opposite direction, defining terrorism down into a problem of the police.  Willing to tolerate a low level of other people being killed is the result.  And it's the very least of what we'll get.  But it works as long as the other people aren't someone you know.

Call it torture if you like, Mancow.  Just keep doing it as long as is necessary.

I’m pretty confident that I can withstand the searing heat of jet fuel combustion as I cling to a window frame 900 feet above the street.”

The radio personality told his listeners that after several seconds of waterboard torture he would “confess to anything.”

An unnamed spokesman for the CIA said he’s glad to hear that, “especially if Mr. Mancow were a known terrorist and would confess to his plans to attack civilians in other American cities — plans that we could then interrupt, preventing the death of thousands of people.”

If it is actually, genuinely torture than all these people are--by definition--torturers.

We don't allow people to experimentally pull-off fingernails as part of a public debate.

He claimed it led to an ideological conversion! But now a tipster has provided information that suggests the whole thing may be a hoax.

The information provided to Gawker by our tipster came in a series of emails and is somewhat layered, so we'll try to lay it all out as unconfusingly as possible. Where the story begins is last Thursday afternoon, the day before Muller was scheduled to be waterboarded, when the person slated to do the waterboarding suddenly backed out, sending Mancow's publicity team into a mild frenzy to find someone to replace him. A chain of emails followed, emails that were subsequently forwarded to Gawker by our tipster.

At the end of the article there are 2 videos, one of Mancow being waterboarded, and the other is when Christopher Hitchens volunteered for it.  There are some marked differences, but the leaked emails between publicists really cast doubt on whether Mancow was really waterboarded.

Hitchens had done to him what is / was done to the islamofascists. Hitchens held out for 10 sec..So an older, alcaholic, overweight Trotskist held out 30% MORE than mightymouth Mancow? hOW IS that POSSIBLE.....UNLESS......IT....WAS   .......bs.... :evillaugh:

They had different ways of doing it.  I think the Hitchens video is closest to reality.  You are blind and under control the whole way.

The fox version Fox corresponedent gets waterboard treatment was a whole lot easier.   Hitchens was under what Harrigan called phase two from the get go.

He also gave up real fast.

I persoanny don't think I would last as long as Hitchens.

The whole problem here is would the information given be what is useful, or what the interrogator wants to know?   That is the real question behind the rule against this kind of thing in the first place

DUmmies and lefties, and others like to say that information obtained from torture enhanced interrogation is always suspect, because the prisoner will say anything to stop the enhanced interrogation.  That may very well be true if the suspect has no valuable knowledge, but is it better to follow some false leads obtained this way than to miss very real threats because of taking "the moral high ground"? I don't think so and I doubt many people would.

The prisoner also knows that if he LIES and the information os a pack of LIES, you're going to be BACK, for further discussions. And it might not be as gentile. Waterboarding is 90% imagination (I'm gonna DIE! SO, i'LL GIVE IT ALL UP!) AND 10% discomfort. As I said, as a surfer and SCUBA diver I have been in bad places due to nature and my own stupidity. More than once battered by pre-hurricaner surf, held under water by rolling surf for over a minute, no safe word, , just brown black and being tumbled over rocks, quick half breath, and another roller in the face and down again.

Once, while SCUBA DIVING Imade an ascent from 165 ft to 50 ft (decompression station) withouit a inhaled breath, same speed as my bubbles, exhaleing all the way to the safety tank and regulator.

YOU CAN DO IT. But panic would get a desert dweller, I think, and he give everything up.
