Helping your fellow citizens - please!

Not sure where to post this, but hopefully it'll get directed appropriately.

Tonight, leaving the grocery store, I saw a woman trying to get into a car not clearly her own. She was a senior citizen I'd seen before and was clearly confused and unable to enter the car with her bags. The car wasn't hers and she was completely confused that she couldn't get in. I asked if she needed help and she let me know her car looked similar but couldn't remember where she parked and was trying her key in cars that looked like hers.

Long story short, I looked at her key (Toyota) and the car she thought was hers - clearly no match - and went about looking for cars that matched being a Toyota. I found her car and got her bags inside and asked if I could follow her home, knowing she was rather shaken about not being able to identify her own vehicle. We drove off to her nearby community - back streets and no danger - and I left my business card with the attendant at her building, giving him a synopsis of what had happened. All ended well and she got home safely, but the attendant knew that she was starting signs of failing memory but there's no one to really look out for what she does for her own activities.

I know DU folks don't fail when there's an opportunity to help others out, but please just be aware that you may need to assist where you normally might not need to.

I don't post this to boast about what I did - just to bring awareness and I hope that if my Mother ever finds herself in the same situation, some kind soul will assist her, too.

Be well DU!

MODS - please post to GD - not sure how it ended up in Rural/Farm

I dunno why the bonfire ended up in the rural forum.

Maybe it's because small town and farm folk in red places are renown for caring about others, why city people aren't.

5. You are so nice to say that

And while I'm happy I could help her - and wonder how many people may have passed her by, I'm thankful for a safe and happy ending for this very sweet lady.

Pass it on....

2. Take a bow, and everything you did was correct, everything you said was right.

In the Jewish religion, we are taught that anonymous gifts of charity are the most blessed. Yours was blessed. How very lovely of you, and how dear that the woman was able to accept your kindness. It's a two-way street.

In this world, now more than ever, we need small kindnesses among ourselves to keep each other going.

I recently encountered a computer problem - a really scary thing that left me thinking a full reinstall of Windows (gasp!) was going to be necessary. Taking a chance, I posted my problem in the Computer forum here at DU.

You would not believe the immediate suggestions and help I got from people. And it went on and on, and finally, someone found EXACTLY what had happened to me, and took the time (I'm a computer illiterate) to explain to me, in painstaking detail, exactly what I had to do to fix my computer. Another individual sent me a link to a free utility I could download to save all my Firefrox settings! Just out of the goodness of their hearts, bless them all.

I haven't done it yet - tomorrow, with a clear head - but can you imagine the kindness of people all over the world! They just did what they could to help out a baffled LaBamba, and I ended up with the perfect - and simple - solution, simply because someone had had the same experience and wanted to help me.

That's what we need to remember, and what you did with that confused woman - especially following her home - touches my heart. I've done stuff like that. Doesn't it feel wonderful?

Remember when you were in grade school and some kid punched you and hissed "Pass it on!"

Pass it on .....................

4. You are too kind and PUNCH - back to you

Thank you for your kind comments that entail ALL that is great about DU.

I feel wonderful and I hope that what I've done will enable other folks to do the same - or at least be on the lookout for folks that need an assist.

Pass it on.......again

6. One of my favorite things, and it's so easy and so right, is when I end up in the line at the grocery store, and someone in front of me doesn't have enough money for the order. I just give them whatever they need, and when they thank me, I tell them that one day they'll be where I am, and they'll see someone who needs a hand, and they'll extend that hand.

Youngsters - kids buying gum and munchies and stuff - take this especially well. You can see it registering, you can see it in their eyes, in that instant, that they are forever changed.

As you did, kid - pass it on .................................

3. Your a very nice person...now where that cloning machine?

I dunno.

Isn't it funny how the primitives remember the smallest kind thing they ever did in the past twenty years, but franksolich can't remember his own acts of charity and compassion done only hours ago?

Really.

She should watch out she doesn't hurt herself doing all that back-patting. :whatever:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

I am sure everyone of us has done nice, compassionate perhaps even heroic things but seldom does anyone feel the need to start a thread about it. ::)

That's very true.

We here are nice, but modest, people.

You're right about this DUmmy dislocating her shoulder with all those pats to the back.

You can always count on a DUmmy. Whenever I'm facing a moral dilemma, I ask myself, "What Would Greenbriar Do?"

Color me skeptical but I have a hard time believing that someone who posts "I hate Republicans/conservatives/Bush/etc... 24/7/365/forever the way these primitives do give a flip about helping others.  Way too big of a chance they'd be helping some "fascist" find their car or pay for their food, and they aren't going to take that kind of risk.

Normally, DUmmies add a "sarcasm" sign to posts as absurd as this one. When you combine the drug-frazzled brain of a reader with the learning-disabled skill of a writer, the intent of a post is otherwise often lost. That is why posts at the DUmp are commonly littered with swarms of those DUmb emoticons.

The idea that a hate-filled psychopath like this DUmmy tangerine would give money to a stranger at the store is beyond absurd.

Gosh, last week they were helping hit and run victims, this week it's little old ladies! I guess we should all be impressed! I mean they're going to all the trouble to post their wonderful helpfulness! How inspirational! No silent random acts of kindness for them. Shout it from the rooftops! A DUmmie was kind to an old lady! Because the rest of us who help ust because it's the right thing to do and then just go on about our lives...we're being selfish by not celebrating our generosity! Bragging and getting pats on the back is SO much better!

Aren't there specific instances of DUmmies starting to help someone in need, until they find out they're helping a Republican? Once they find out, they either start talking shit or they walk away. I'm sure they're all bouncies, but they convey intentions and feelings.
