The destruction of the Domestic auto industry by the Obama administration

First off, if you don't already know, I'm UAW and I work as the SYSADMIN at a huge NJ GM store. We were bought out last year by Republicans who are simply using us as a write off, nothing more. They flat out told us at the kick off breakfast a few months ago that they weren't concerned about making money. But since then, they've frozen all wages, cut out life insurance, increased the co-pay on our health insurance, and frozen all vacations and reduced sick days from 20 to 5. When the shop protested the cutbacks, the owners stated bluntly "if you don't like it, we'll close, fire you all, and re-open as a new corporation and none of you get your jobs back."

With that as a starting point, I wanted to discuss the pending closure of nearly 2000 American businesses forced by the Obama administration so that Chrysler and GM can 'run lean'. Each of these dealer employs roughly 50 employees each, so in 48 hours, 100,000 people were just put out on waivers. And that doesn't include the toll taken on local business that depended on the business generated by those dealers, the taxes generated for the towns and states, and now the cost of putting those people on unemployment.

It also means that GM will bring in more foreign built product (Mexico, Canada, and eventually China) to supplement the closing of so many plants in the US. Additionally, the UAW will again make concessions to GM to keep the Obama Administration happy and reduce the wages of their average line worker to less than $14 an hour for a highly skilled, dangerous, and productive craft. JUST to satisfy the Obama Administration. Over $41 BILLION dollars of new cars and parts are imported from Japan every year, and we export less than $600,000. And what has the Administration done to equalize that imbalance? Nothing, zip, zero.

The Administration has given the banks and Wall Street ( and the insurance companies) TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS NO STRINGS ATTACHED. And the American manufacturing blue collar worker has had their hand shit in. No strings attached. The American Dream is dead. This Administration has made their bed with the banks and Wall Street. And they left us out to starve. So be it. Obama won't get my vote in 2012. And I'm not the only one who will be sitting out the election. Tens of thousands of displaced worker will probably sit out too. In the next three years, my Senators and Congressmen who stood with Obama will not get my vote.

Maybe Mickey Mouse will.

Sorry if this doesn't sit well with many of you around here, but so many contributed to this by buying Foreign and opening the door to Foreign ownership of this Country. And by the time most of you realize the damage you've done, there won't be anything Made in America left to buy.

2. Yep.... 3 decades of decline at GM, Chrysler, and Ford....

...but it's all the fault of Obama's 120 days in office.

As your first paragraph indicates, you were working for a dead company long before Obama was President.

The dealerships can't stay open if nobody is buying cars.

The American Auto Industry is dead. But Obama didn't kill it.

He just happens to be in office when life support was finally turned off.

The American Auto Industry is dead by its own hands over the past 30 years.

to see how much Obama stood with the unions on this we're better off not have you vote. That why they had Treasury back union pension funds and sure you know a major reason why the first turnaround we're rejected becuase than more creditor concessions.

 :mental:

Can anyone translate this from DUmmie to actual human?

Government control of capital....check

Government control of industry...check

Government control of agriculture.....working on it......turn all grain into bio-fuel VODKA and the transformation to communism is complete.

I guess there really is a silver lining to every cloud, now that you mention it.

Uhmm...add in what I am sure is generous vacation time and you start to see what the real problem is with the viability of these companies.

I've lost track of how many times me and my fellow Republican venture capitalists have said "Hey, we're making too much money.  Let's go buy this business and lose money so we can write it off."

I loved my '84 Shadow 700.  It was a dream.  Quick and comfortable.

I still want a vehicle I can put 50's-style whitewalls on.  My boss has a Harley with a bunch of doo-dads and gee-gaws all over it.  Maybe I should suggest them to him.

Why would DainBramaged  want to continue the payment of union dues to the union that agreed to this?

Bitching about 5 sick days a year?  Hell, in 7 and a half years I've lost 2 hours of work due to illness.  I knew a teacher in Michigan who took his entire last year of his 30 year career off in sick days, and he only had about 5 a year.

These DUmmies need to stop being all French.

I was gonna say, I'm supposedly allowed 5 a year but if I ever have more than 3 in any running 12-month period I sure hear about it from management.

Actually, the scheming dipshit primitive got this one right. Detroit's been selling us crap for years and it's finally catching up with them. I'd love to buy American.......and I will..........once they start making cars as good as Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. Sure, some union hack may drag in some J.D. Power stats showing that American cars are just as good, but resale values don't lie. As soon as GM, Chrysler, or Ford starts making a vehicle that can compete with my Toyota Land Cruiser, I'll buy one. Until then, the Big 3 can STFU and sort it out in bankruptcy.
Never demand that which you are incapable of taking by force, DUmmie.
