The idea is that states like Florida and Texas do not have a state income tax (Texas NEVER will - it's in the State Constitution), and they do not treat industry as enemies.  Those are the keys to prosperity.
No state tax and Anti-Union state.....Right to Work state.

Seems to me that Cali. needs to take a hard look at the Billions that are spent on Illegal Immigrants. Could probably balance the budget right there.

But those are the Dem voting base and help maintain Calipornia as a blue state. :)

It appears that the last ballot before the voters to increase taxes D*I*D  N*O*T  P*A*S*S

Arny is now set to begin the process of massive state layoffs.

I've never lived in cali-PORN-e-uh, just passed through several times enroute to Hawaii and WESTPAC assignments.

Of course, my mistake, I guess I figured that they would cut their own grass, like most of the rest of us in the peasant states. And the govunator now says they got to cut much more from the education buget. Go figure, penalize the kids, not the illegals.Bet they still get special funds for their ed. If the priorities in California would be laughable, if it didn't screw so many normal people.

OTOH, by continuing to cut education, police, fire, BUT not programs for illegals and welfare benefits, they'll just drive more tax payers from the state and continue spiraling down the drain.

the folks in the legislature depend on the votes of the illeagals and the welfare cases to get elected.   Less and less business will get done in CA, and they will just ride the spiral down.   They have to know what is headed their way, but power is more important to them than anything else.   If CA looses All the productive, well, Obama will rescue them.

These are the people who voted in Gray Davis for two terms.

BTW: Florida state sales tax is only 5 percent. You touristas pay more though, Thank You. :-)

this is not a spending problem according to this CNN article but a "revenue shortfall"

California's recently reached 9.25%.

I look at other states and I wonder how more Californians don't start wondering why we have to pay so much more in taxes and yet are still always short on funds.

Sales taxes here range from %9.25 to %9.75 depending on what county you are in.  They tax just about everything...food, prescriptions and OTC meds, etc.
