Obama Considers Detaining Terror Suspects Indefinitely

The Obama administration is weighing plans to detain some terror suspects on U.S. soil -- indefinitely and without trial -- as part of a plan to retool military commission trials that were conducted for prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The proposal being floated with members of Congress is another indication of President Barack Obama's struggles to establish his counter-terrorism policies, balancing security concerns against attempts to alter Bush-administration practices he has harshly criticized.

On Wednesday, the president reversed a recent administration decision to release photos showing purported abuse of prisoners at U.S. military facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Obama cited concern that releasing the pictures could endanger U.S. troops. Mr. Obama ordered government lawyers to pull back an earlier court filing promising to release hundreds of photos by month's end as part a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The decision to block the detainee photos contrasts with the administration's release last month of Bush-era Justice Department memorandums outlining the interrogation tactics used on prisoners by the Central Intelligence Agency. The release of the memos set off a heated political fight, with supporters of the Bush administration accusing the Obama White House of endangering the country and some of the current president's supporters calling for criminal probes of those responsible for the interrogation policies.

The administration's internal deliberations on how to deal with Guantanamo detainees are continuing, as the White House wrestles with how to fulfill the president's promise to shutter the controversial prison. But some elements of the plans are emerging as the administration consults with key members of Congress, as well as with military officials, about what to do with Guantanamo detainees.

I'm seriously wondering wtf is going on in the White House?  He first suspends the military tribunal because it didn't give enough rights to these detainees, and now he's considering just locking them up and throwing away the key without even that?

Granted, I'm perfectly fine with the idea of it.  But how dare he spend all that time wagging his finger at his predecessor about how he handled these people, and then pull this.

Because he pandered to the left and promised to close Git-Mo without fully understanding the reality of the situation, he has backed himself into a corner.  He has to find some way to close Git-Mo, or if not that would be considered his biggest/worst flip flop by many. No One wants the detainees, and many are too dangerous to let go.

If he actually thought about his problem for even 30 seconds I think the self evident answer would present itself even to someone as dense as Teh Fuhrer.

Every last one of the bastards caged up in Git-Mo is an Illegal Enemy Combatant, according to the text of the Geneva conventions.  By those rules, every last one of them was owed nothing more than a bullet to the back of the head the moment he was taken on a battlefield.  If Teh Fuhrer wanted to close Git-Mo and keep his promise to the barking moonbats while still "abiding by international accords", every last one of the bastards should be taken out to the end of the Git-Mo pier, a shiny new 9mm asshole installed in their forehead, and the carcass tossed to the circling sharks.  Make sure that the sharks are identified as Cuban nationals (they're in Cuban territorial waters, it should be pretty easy).  Then Duh Fuhrer can crow about his historic agreement with the Cubans to transfer control of the terrorist bastards to the custody of the Cubans, and close the detention center at Git-Mo. 

Considering any US soil there is a Federal reservation, he controls all news flowing off that side of the island, and given the harsh lesson his "leadership team" just learned about the utility of Photoshop in CYA situations, they ought to be ready to gin up just about any images they need to support their story.

All that assumes that Duh Fuhrer is moderately more intelligent than the average pot-steeped DUmbass on Skins Island though, which I don't for a minute believe to be the case.
