Obama Seeks to Block Release of Detainee Photos

0Bama addressing members of the CIA
It's Breaking News.  No article yet.

I con only believe this back pedaling is in response to recent leaks from the CIA. I'm sorry, I can not believe that 0Bama is doing this out of any sense of protecting the US , the Military or the CIA.  It's purely political cover for him and his party.

It must be a real bitch for the big-0, knowing the CIA has enough evidence on him to destroy him while he disdains them so much.
The Big-0 will support them as long as this is true. I am fairly certain the Big-0 sees what a mistake it was by releasing those CIA memos earlier. Both the CIA and Cheney are after his ass and they cannot deny this. Especially now since there is documented proof that Pelosi, Durbin, Feinstien were ALL briefed multiple times on the torture of those Democrat supporters imprisoned in Guantánamo.
The ACLU is behind the releasing of the pictures so this has to be a good "toss under the bus" for them too.

"In a sharp reversal, the Obama administration has decided not to release hundreds of photos potentially showing U.S. military personnel abusing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

A senior administration official told FOX News that President Obama told his legal advisers last week that he did not feel comfortable with the release of the photos because he believes they would endanger U.S. troops, and that the national security implications of such a release have not been fully presented in federal court.

"Obama would be the last to excuse the actions depicted in these photos," the official said. "That is why the Department of Defense investigated these cases, and why individuals have been punished through prison sentences, discharges, and a range of other punitive measures.

"But the president strongly believes that the release of these photos, particularly at this time, would only serve the purpose of inflaming the theaters of war, jeopardizing U.S. forces, and making our job more difficult in places like Iraq and Afghanistan."  Link

Having read the book, "The Party of Defeat", I am totally convinced the CIA will do anything to protect their butts.  It was their intelligence data that Bush, and the democrats used to vote to go to war against Saddam.  Turned out the data was faulty and the CIA leaked it to discredit Bush and protect themselves. That fact is well documented in the book, footnotes, references and all.

What this says to me is the CIA does not discrimnate, they will take down a democrat president just as easily as a Republican if they have to.  My guess is the CIA has all it needs regarding his birth records etc and BO knows it.

Hopefully there will come a leak from the CIA and BO will be neutered.

In a way it's a sad statement that any supposed subordinate agency to the president would have the power to humble the office of the president, yet given the very nature of their work, it is almost a given that they would be able to do so.

You are right about there being few checks and balances in the current situation. I should have said that it's a sad situation when a government agency must resort to this to defend themselves from their own "leader".

It must have just dawned on him what a terrible idea this was - supposedly, some general talked him out of releasing the photos, which I think is a good sign - he's not totally immune to reason.

I was wondering if we can expect another spittle-flecked rant from Keith Olbermann where he calls the President "sir" a lot and practices his angry face.  Maybe he'll have Jeanne Garofalo on and she can do a phrenology presentation on President Obama with a lot of dirty words thrown in to show how totally serious she is.

I've given this some thought and I think its a ploy. Why would he announce that (paraphrase) "these photos are bad, so bad that we are not going to release them." other than to stoke demand for them to be released ? The other thing it does is fire up the imagination of our enemies, where they will fabricate the most incredible rumors of what those photos show. Then giving in to demand, they get released to make his party happy, and to prove they aren't as bad as rumors have led the world to believe.
