Frustrated with family
« on: May 10, 2009, 11:37:25 PM »
I have a facebook page (darkenedhalo@gmail.com) and talk to relatives on a daily basis. Yesterday I was talking to my kid brother and he asked me about some of the propositions that will be on the ballot here in California. Keeping in mind that the dems and reps got together to pass the nations largest ever single state tax increase of 50+ billion dollars just a few months ago and proposition 1A is to add even MORE taxes.

My brother works for the states fish and game department and told me his girlfriend, who also works for the state, was told by supervisors that if the propositions didnt pass they would be facing layoffs. I was calm and said that many people are facing possible layoffs right now. I pointed out that the company I work for has gone from 90 employees to under 40 in the last 3 years. I said that many people there, like myself, had foregone pay increases because of the crappy economy.

His response just stunend me. He said they wouldnt be able to pay their bills on his pay alone....

Not a word about maybe her looking for another job if shes laid off or him looking for a higher paying job. He just assumes I should subsidize them via taxes because I make more than they do. And yes they are both democrats.

Sorry I just needed to vent.

It amazes me the self entitlement today's liberals express. Just existing does NOT entitle you to my money.

All politics is local (we are told), and it doesn't get anymore local than inside ones own brain.  Give your relative a break.  He is a government employee.  The word "layoff" is new to his vocabulary.

It's a new world and California has become the new joke.  It's a lot to digest, especially for a dewy-eyed democrat.

Theyve both worked for the state less than 2 years and just assume they should have a guaranteed job for life. Ive been with the same company 28 years and I never take my job for granted. I just assume that I have to prove my value to them every single working day to keep my job. Especially right now.

I feel your frustration.  At this point, I don't take anything for granted.  I've been through four jobs since 2006... it sucks being at the bottom of the totem pole.  The company I'm with now cut their workforce by 10%.  The only new hiring they've done is comission-based sales people.
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

I've been at my job for only 7 years, so was really happy when they decided to skip raises instead of doing lay-offs.   Of course, if I had been laid off, I'd have busted butt finding another job!   :thatsright:

I was talking to the same brother again last night. He is almost as angry as me about the flood of illegal aliens but still has these knee jerk reactions to things I say. He agreed with me that political correctness is evil but when I said the same about affirmative action he insinuated I was a racist. And like other libs he couldnt explain why that made me a racist just that it did. He's 40 now and spent about a decade as a serious meth addict. Hes got himself cleaned up but has taken a number of college courses on forestry and boy have his lib professors got their hooks into him. Recently he told me that he was drifting farther and farther away from what they had indoctrinated in him as he spent more and more time in the 'real world' of normal everyday people. Maybe theres still hope for him. I just hope I have the patience to wait for him to get this nonsense out of his system. I told him the whole key is that people with less tend to vote to get more and the people with more tend to vote to keep what they have worked so hard for.

You missed a good opportunity to educate him about the difference between realist and racist and how labeling realists as racists is itself racist.

You wanna give him my number?  I'll have him in tears.   :hyper:

We can hold up California and Michigan as beacons of Socialism--Even though Arnie is supposed to be a republican. How are things working out there? oh yeah. Private enterprise is leaving and the states are going broke.

When do people actually start realizing that oppressive government just might not be the answer?
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
