Six Flags Over Georgia

I loved this park so much, it deserves its own thread!  :-)  I've been in Atlanta for a few days, hanging out with family and friends. Some of us went to Six Flags on Saturday... it was my first time there, and having gone to Six Flags over Texas, I had to prepare myself for a smaller version.

Who cares about size, this park was more than I'd expected.  We went for the Flash Pass system, carrying around these Giga-Pet looking devices to scan at the gate to each ride so we could skip to the head of the line. Thanks to that, we rode all of the coasters (which can be hard to do in a day, with the 2 hour waits that were occurring that day.

My reviews are in on the coasters...

Cyclone (wooden): kicked my ass and hurt my tailbone. :(

Goliath (tallest): thought I was going to die going down the first drop... what a thrill!  :-)

Georgia Scorcher: Loved the ride but not the wait for it.

MindBender:  loops rock!  :cheersmate:

Ninja: never again will I ride that one... hurt my neck pretty badly. :censored:

Great American Scream Machine:  Classic wooden coaster... hurt me too, but it was fun regardless. :hyper:

Batman: WILL ride that one again, that's all I have to say.  :naughty:

Mine Train: It might LOOK like some innocent little kiddie ride, but that thing can and will hurt people, with the way it jerks riders around.  :o  The guy behind me was screaming like a little girl... I'm not joking, and there are folks who can vouch for that.  :lmao:

Thunder River (water ride): 10 people in one of those yellow rafts go floating down the rapids... doesn't seem that bad, does it? Well, when you include the water cannons people on the sidelines are allowed to control, you tend to get nailed pretty hard, along with being the unfortunate soul who ends up on the waterfall side of the boat.  :lmao:  That would be me, by the way.  Jeans and blouse soaked, along with the Sketchers.  :p

And the best ride award goes to Superman: Ultimate Flight... it puts you in a seated position at first, but pulls back so that you are in a flying position... having the g-forces exerted on my body in such a different way really got the adrenaline flowing.   :o

Sounds like fun.  I always have trouble getting up that first hill.  I have to stare at something that is not moving (the floor of the cart, for example).  I'm okay with the rest of the ride.

I like wooden coasters.  They're different.  I haven't been on one since I went to Jacksonville when I was 14 or 15.

Then you might have a hard time with Goliath... going up that first hill is nerve-wracking...you're wondering if you're ever going to get there. :o  And instead of stopping or slowing down at the top like some coasters do, this one just keeps going, and you don't have time to prepare yourself.  But I loved that.   :hyper:

I'm not fond of wooden coasters... as I've gotten older, the more they tend to beat me up... I always come off of one with an aching back, legs, or neck.  I've had people tell me Texas Giant is awesome. No thanks, I'm staying AWAY from that one.  :mental:  But I did enjoy the Scream Machine.  :popcorn:

I like roller coasters... you get to see the park from a different angle.  Opryland used to have this sky lift transom that would move you from the southern end of the park to the north end.  The park was basically a big figure-8... you couldn't get lost, but it was always interesting to ride it at least once during a visit.

I agree about the wooden coasters. My first coaster ride was not until I was a teenager, and I found that even though I was always scared of heights, I really enjoyed them.

As I got older, I did not enjoy the way they seemed to jack up my neck and back!  :hammer: :-)

Made a few visits to ride coasters in Des Moines, IA and then I made it to Six Flag's Great America near Chicago...hours of sitting in traffic....I was youth leader for my church and was there to help watch the kids, thankfully we rented a bus.

When I was very little, we went to Six Flags in St Louis...I don't remember much of that...

Went to Six Flags Over Georgia the first year it was open. After going to Six Flags Over Texas earlier which had air conditioning in the waiting lines, I was a bit disappointed and hot. But all in all a fun weekend. Went back about 5 years later and haven't been since. Sounds like it has grown.

the weather really wasn't all that bad on Saturday... they do provide plenty of shade with canopies over the long lines, and the breeze was nice that day.  It threatened to rain a bit, but that dissipated quickly.  Yes, it has DEFINITELY grown.  Mine Train was one of the first rides to open there, if I recall correctly, and it still had everything going for it, jerking us around like rag dolls. LOL  I definitely would like to go back sometime soon. 

Wish I'd gotten pictures taken with Bugs Bunny.  :uhsure: :lmao:

Oh, and despite the high prices of concessions, the service was most excellent.  They had people walking around with huge trays of frozen drinks ($4.00 for a huge frozen lemonade) for those waiting in the lines (and sun) for the big rides.

:asssmack: My vision isn't THAT bad... sometimes it seems like it though... can only see clearly about a foot in front of my face... any further than that, and its all fuzzy. :p

My eye surgeon gave me a fanny pack filled with eye drops, gauze, and a bunch of other crap each time I went there for an operation.  I have three of them.  You're welcome to have one.

I rarely see fanny packs at amusement parks anymore.  Most folks have those mini-backpacks... they look somewhat better than a fanny pack.  :p
