Jack Kemp has passed away (RIP)
« on: May 02, 2009, 10:30:30 PM »

(AP)  Jack Kemp, the ex-quarterback, congressman, one-time vice-presidential nominee and self-described "bleeding-heart conservative," died Saturday. He was 73.

Kemp died after a lengthy illness, according to spokeswoman Bona Park and Edwin J. Feulner, a longtime friend and former campaign adviser. Park said Kemp died at his home in Bethesda, Md., in the Washington suburbs.

Kemp had announced in January 2009 that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He said he was undergoing tests but gave no other details.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., called Kemp "one of the nation's most distinguished public servants. Jack was a powerful voice in American politics for more than four decades."

Hi,

To show folks how times have changed.....  I had an occasion to fly across country on a commercial airliner with Mr. Kemp sitting next to me.  He was a strong believer in Reagan and supply side economics.  It was just plain good luck, I was a frequent flier and in those days the airlines generally tried to put us in first class and, lo and behold, Mr. Kemp was next to me.  I canot fathom in today's world a guy who had run for vice president flying commercial these days with no security etc..

He was truly a nice man, very much to the point, and did not mince words either.  I had just finished reading some of his articles so the timing was perfect as I had many quesitions for him.  He seemed pleased that I was interested and seemed to enjoy taking the time to educate me. He did quite a bit to help me understand what Reagan was all about and I shall forever be grateful.

Indeed, he was a good man, his suffering on earth has stopped, may he rest in peace.

Jack Kemp was great; one of the Giants of the latter half of the 20th century.

The Conservative movement has lost one of our most ardent champions.

Godspeed to you, Mr. Kemp, your service here is done.

Next to Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp was truly was one of those people who made Conservatism a proud word again in American politics.  My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family at this time. RIP   :(

IMHO, the GOP really needs to be dusting off his playbook of economic growth and tax cuts again if they ever want to regain power again
