Olbermann Pressing on Hannity's Waterboard Offer
« on: April 29, 2009, 07:24:45 AM »
Besides the obvious Yahoo liberal slant on this article, and since I don't usually listen to Hannity, I found this article interesting.

I can't imagine that Hannity wouldn't respond to Olbermann's thrown gauntlet, so let's see how this one plays out.

Quote
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK – The debate over torture is getting personal for two of cable TV's prime-time hosts.

After Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity made a seemingly impromptu offer last week to undergo waterboarding as a benefit for charity, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann leapt at it. He offered $1,000 to the families of U.S. troops for every second Hannity withstood the technique.

Olbermann repeated the offer on Monday's show and said in an interview Tuesday that he's heard no response. He said he'll continue to pursue it.

"I don't think he has the courage to even respond to this — let alone do it," Olbermann said.

Fox News Channel representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

The two men are on opposite poles of a debate that has preoccupied the worlds of talk TV and radio. Hannity says waterboarding is a fair and necessary interrogation technique for suspected terrorists; Olbermann calls it torture, says it's ineffective and should not be done by Americans.

Charles Grodin was challenging Hannity on the issue on Fox last week, and asked whether he would consent to be waterboarded.

"Sure," Hannity said. "I'll do it for charity ... I'll do it for the troops' families."

Hannity should agree to do this with the added stipulation that if he, Hannity, comes out of the ordeal without any physical injury, the MSNBC queenboy must pay an additional $3 million dollars.  If Hannity is physically injured, Hannity will pay $5 million dollars.

It's torture, after all.  Shouldn't somebody be getting hurt?

I'd go farther and stipulate if Hannity comes out of it with little or no harm, OlberBitch, countdown to no ratings, has to also submit! That ***** would crap his pants if it were even suggested!

Someone suggested that Hannity should do it and donate the money to Sarah Palin's CPAC fund. Olbermann would piss himself.

I personally think Hannity shouldn't even acknowledge his "challenge". Keith is clearly doing this in an attempt to garner 1/10th of the ratings that Hannity gets every night.

I disagree. Since Hannity first suggested that he could undergo water boarding then he should follow through.  I really do like the idea of donating the money to Sarah Palin, but I think donating it for her legal defense would even be better.

While Hannity shouldn't have suggested it in the first place, to do it would vindicate Olbertard and make him think he's somehow relevant.

Now Olberman--THAT I'd pay to see.

I would do it.  Big deal.  You know you are not going to die.  All you have to do is hold your breath for a minute.

Hi thundley,

You know how folks raise money for cancer with a walk-a-thon or something?  I just emailed Hannity and said I would pledge $10/minute to be donated to the charity of his choice.  Hope he pickes up on it because he could raise a ton of money and that would really gag Olberman, particularly if we tag it with coming from tea party folks.

regards,

Hannity should keep his promise, since he is being challenged on it. But he does not need to recognize Olbermann publicly in any way--he could just send a private communication to Olbermann to the effect of  "I accept your challenge. Make your check payable to _____." That way, he won't help Olbermann's ratings.

Sending the money to Sarah Palin won't wash, because that was not part of Hannity's promise. Hannity specifically said he would send it to the troops and their families.
