Oh my.

These bonfires are flaring up like mushrooms in a dark dank forest.

Now that the tyrant is out of office, Arlen Specter wants to rein in executive power

after which lengthy quote from an article, but as it's pretty boring, I didn't bring it over

2. Arlen's Too Smart By Half...He's Toast...

There's a strong chance he'll lose in the GOOP primary this year...and a fitting end to this weasel. Magic Bullet Arlen is noted for wringing his hands and then running back under the rushpublican/right wing coat tails, but methinks he's played both side of the street too long.

Of all rushpublicans, Arlen's responsible for letting his beloved DOJ become a political machine...a criminal enterprise. He looked the other way as he saw Gonzo bring in the Monica Goodlings and chase out qualified, career attorneys. He expressed "concern" about boooshie regime abuses, but when the whip was cracked, he piddled his way back into the GOOP tent.

So who trust him? Surely Democrats are tired of his routine...and now it looks like the rushpublicans are done with him as well.

3. I agree. He always talked a good game but that's it.

I think he's one of those guys who will spend many days living in regret about what might have happened had they had the guts to stand up for what they really believed. I put Colin Powell in the same category. If he had resigned as Sec. of State, I think the entire War in Iraq might have been prevented. One stand-up guy at the right time might have made all the difference.

4. Remember, Powell Was Supposed To Be The Adult...

...in the end, he was the chump. I lost all respect for him when he joined that regime and saw him become a "token"...not just his race, but his image...used as a prop of "legitimacy" while this regime went full speed into war and corruption. His "Powell Doctrine" became the "Pottery Barn"...I think a fitting description of his career.

Yep...had he had any true principals, he would have resigned...he didn't...he was kicked out when he was no longer useful.

10. update in light of his party switch

Well, maybe he just took the first step in not living a life of regret. I hope so.

5. Oh, yeah - I heard talk about term limits, too - I guess the Dems are in power.

Remember Newt's Contract? Term limits, balanced budget, less government inteference in people's lives, and a healthy "market driven" economy when the GOP became the "permanent majority party"?

So we have an 8 year Repub regime, massive debts of historical proportions after a surplus from the Dems, no hope of a balanced budget in anyone's lifetime, the Patriot Act, general wiretaps, the HSA and a market that drove the economy into the ground. Where were the term limite when we really needed them?

Arlen is a real snake - he will give you just a litle, then take it all back and then some.
He also is saying he wants a committee to investigate the handling of the swine flu pandemic, this after the GOP cut the funding for flu pandemic programs from the budget as "pork."

He is a terrible person. The only good thing about him is that his opponent in the PA primaries, Pat Toomey, is far worse. "Real" Republicans think Specter is a Democrat. Toomey is certainly not - he is somewhre around the Palin school of political "thought".

7. I cant believe Mr. Magic Bullet Theory is still around

Hell, I'm shocked he's not in prison for some reason or another. He has been in a position of obstruction for far too long.

after which a crude sketch of apparently what are two car-crash dummies

Specter is a rusty tool

He has been in a position of obstruction for far too long.

I agree with each of these DUmmie statements, but for entirely different reasons.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Where does one go to sign up to be one of these "Rushpublicans?" It sounds fabulous! :hyper: :hyper:
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

It's impossible to make perpetually miserable individuals anything but unhappy.  It's the reason the primitives get up in the afternoon.  Without something to be seething angry about they couldn't function the little they do, so they hunt for reasons.

I copied this from some lib blog last night but I didn't get the link, however they all were reading about the same way.

Quote from:
Democrats should not be all that eager to embrace this geriatric, washed-up opportunist and his blue-dog Dem positions. What we may be witnessing is the initial moments of America morphing into a truly one-party state: a DP made up of reactionary Democrats and conservative Republicans; corporatist to its core, anti-labor, tough on crime (e.g., whores for the prison-industrial complex), in favor of for-profit health care, and a pro-actively militaristic foreign policy (the obscene bipartisanship re: bailing out Wall St. already speaks for itself).

The MSM can be relied upon to throw all of its weight (Olberman, et al) behind this new DP of ‘Rockafeller Republicans’ as the bulwark of sweetness and light against the GOP barbarians at the very gates of civilization; while forever castigating the left wing of the Democratic Party for their schizmatic sectarianism, because The United Front against the GOP is ALL IMPORTANT for the foreseeable future. And beyond.

.
Because third world peasant labor is a good thing.

Specter's change of party does not mean all that much, because his voting tendencies are not going to change that much. The Democrats had a majority of seats and they still do. And to overcome a filibuster, they needed 60 votes, with or without Specter, and they still do.

What fascinates me is the reluctance the DUers have to embrace him. Where is the tolerance they like to preach? Specter is not pure enough for them; but, who is? I don't remember any Republicans acting like this when Shelby became Republican, and when it looked like Zell Miller or Lieberman might do the same.

They seem to enjoy wallowing in defeat, even when they are winning, and that attitude ensures they will lose. As Rush says, some people just can't handle success.
