Slow Roll Time At Langley

Slow Roll Time At Langley

By David Ignatius
Wednesday, April 22, 2009

At the Central Intelligence Agency, it's known as "slow rolling." That's what agency officers sometimes do on politically sensitive assignments. They go through the motions; they pass cables back and forth; they take other jobs out of the danger zone; they cover their backsides.

Sad to say, it's slow roll time at Langley after the release of interrogation memos that, in the words of one veteran officer, "hit the agency like a car bomb in the driveway." President Obama promised CIA officers that they won't be prosecuted for carrying out lawful orders, but the people on the firing line don't believe him. They think the memos have opened a new season of investigation and retribution.

The lesson for younger officers is obvious: Keep your head down. Duck the assignments that carry political risk. Stay away from a counterterrorism program that has become a career hazard.

Obama tried personally to reassure the CIA workforce during a visit to Langley on Monday. He said all the right things about the agency's clandestine role. But it had the look of a campaign event, with employees hooting and hollering and the president reading from his teleprompter with a backdrop of stars that commemorate the CIA's fallen warriors. By yesterday, Obama was deferring to the attorney general whether to prosecute "those who formulated those legal decisions," whatever that means. ---MORE----

Well, doesn't that give you a warm and fuzzy inside.  ::)

NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

There's always room for one more.........under the Obowma bus.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I saw a clip of him standing there in front of those stars honoring the men and women who've given their lives while serving this country as a CIA operative. I wanted to puke. He's got no right to even be in the same room. Slimy tool. I'm so pissed.....

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

This from the same agency which tried to embarass the Bush administration by leaking information to the NY Times and gave him shitty intel at every turn.

Screw 'em.

I saw that TV photo op, and found it very strange.  It was so staged; all they did was find Obamabots in the typing pool or mailroom, and packed the room with these stupidly cheering fans, mostly black chicks.  OMG it was sickening.  Krauthammer is right:  Does the narcissism of this man know any bounds?

Aside from that, it's an outrage what this POS is doing.  I don't think they're thinking. things. through.  Not their strong suit anyway.  They will regret the shitstorm this causes.

I noticed that two.  It was obviously staged and yes all about race.  Didn't see any white "spooks" cheering for him.  Just the sistas.

Hi,

I am not so sure they are not right on track with their agenda.  We don't know FOR SURE that BO is even an American.  If he is trying to destroy this country he is doing a doggone good job of it.

In this particular case he may have underestimated his enemy.  They already proved they would turn on Bush to save their own reputation and likely they will do the same on BO.  I am hoping two things happen.

One seemed to start on Sean Hannity an hour or so ago.  He reports that there was a major terrorist attack planned on LA and, because of information gathered from their interrogation, it was thwarted.  He went on to report that information was in a release given to the New York Times but was edited out of course, God forbid they give Bush credit for doing anything right.  Hannity sounded to me like he was reading text directly from CIA memos.

Second thing I want to happen in the CIA to start investigating BO and his associates.  They will likely tear him down before they will take the fall for him.  Woundn't it be wonderful if his college application, filled out in his handwriting, indicated he was born in Kenya, or that he applied for student loans as a foreign student.  Not so sure that he was not more involved in the Blagoavitch deal and there was intervention before it could get too far.  I think if anyone can find out that kind of information it would be the CIA, and right now my guess is they would leak it to every conservative media outlet possible.  Heck, if they are going to go down, they might as well take BO with them.  God wouldn't that be wonderful.

The writer's conclusion...

Quote from:
America will be better off, in the long run, for Obama's decision to expose the past practice of torture and ban its future use.

... is in contrast to his saying the CIA operatives will back off because they don't trust Dear Leader.  He's right that it places the CIA operatives out in the field in a weakned position, but it's *because* Dear Leader decided to "expose" this info that they will do less, and it won't make America better off either short term or in the long run.

This was nothing more than a political ploy by a weak minded, tiny jerk of a prez who only cares about himself.

As always, I find your posts very enlightening, However, I would be very afraid of the consequences if he was kicked out of office or an impeachment was held. The backlash from the left and blacks would destroy this country not to mention riots in many urban black communities. It is a shame we have to put up with this socialist for three and a half more years.

Hi,

I totally agree with you, if they tried to impeach him it would cause race riots everywhere.....unless the democrat leadership asked him to resign.  They probably already know the dirt that is hidden and would rather have a nitwit democrat in office because any democrat is good enough for them.

On the other side of the coin, if he is caught with something big, hopefully it will make him impotent; particularly if the mid term elections swing congress back to our favor.  Realistically, if there was something so bad that he was humiliated, one would hope he would resign.  Clinton didn't and I think his ego is bigger than Clintons.

Right now, if he just became impotent and we could slow things down before the mid term elections I think it would be much easier to deal with.

If the CIA started feeding stuff out and BO went from offense to defense it sure would help.

Perhaps this was a shot acrossed the bow telling them that if they try to leak anything they will suddenly be under prosecution for "war crimes".

Hi,

You may be right, but in my opinion he is underestimating his enemy if that is the case.  The CIA leaked stuff to the New York Times to undermine the war effort and discredit Bush.  Notice they never could figure out who did it.  Ummm, who will do the undercover investigation if the CIA leaks stuff out about BO?  They will be clever enough to cover their tracks; plus many within the CIA will likely be sympathetic to their efforts.

While the CIA appears to be a very political organization, many of those folks lay their lives on the line every day to protect our country.  If they see the train going too far off the track, my gut instinct tells me that they will likely find some of their membership finding ways to let the public know what is going on.

God I sure hope so anyway,
