Police: 3 dead in California hospital shooting

Long Beach Police officers surround the Long Beach Memorial Hospital after a shooting that left two people dead and one in critical condition, Thursday April 16, 2009 in Long Beach, Calif

"By AMY TAXIN, Associated Press Writer – 15 mins ago
LONG BEACH, Calif. – A hospital worker shot and killed two employees and then killed himself at a medical center Thursday, sending panicked people fleeing, police and witnesses said.
The gunman was identified as Mario Ramirez, 50, of Alhambra, who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. The victims were Hugo Bustamante, 46, of Cypress, who died at the scene, and Kelly Hales, 56, of Redondo Beach, who was taken to the hospital's emergency room in critical condition and died several hours later.
Police Chief Anthony Batts said the gunfire erupted just before noon at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He said the motive remained under investigation but noted the violence came amid a flurry of recent shootings in the country.
"This is a trend of active shooters that you have seen nationwide," Batts said at a news conference. "This is becoming a national trend, probably because of the tension that's going on in our society today."
Hospital spokeswoman Stacie Crompton-Hime said all three men worked in an outpatient pharmacy where Bustamante was the manager and Hales was the executive director. Asked if the shooting stemmed from a dispute or possible layoffs at the hospital, Crompton-Hime said there were layoffs last month but no other reductions were planned."  Link

It's a scary thought if this is a trend.  Considering all 3 worked in the pharmacy, it makes me wonder if drugs could have been a factor.

So there is a direct and provable cause and effect with Obama getting elected?  :innocent:

I was born in this hospital, 58 years ago. Interesting how things come around.

yeah obama got elected and no one got any more money right away and people are so pissed off that they are going around taking out on those they perceive as having it better than themselves.  I am kind of tongue in cheek about this...but you know people are really disgruntled...these are the working poor those people who obama said help is on the way to, and now they are getting laid off...how could the great obama have let them down? :banghead:
Fighting to oust all congressional incumbents...after all aren't they the ones responsible for this whole mess.

If they worked in the pharmacy, they probably weren't all that poor.

I would suspect the main reason this guy went beserk at work is because he could...hospitals are all "No Gun" zones, so he knew no one would stop him while he got revenge for whatever.  If concealed carry were legal in these places, the shootings wouldn't happen.

They still aren't releasing a motive, but I'm still thinking that drugs could be the cause.  The shooter targeted only his two pharmacy co-workers and they were in separate areas. So, I'm left thinking drugs or on  the job bullying, maybe?

You're absolutely right, in his 86 days as president so far, he should have ensured that the economy be saved already.

Seems like Police Chief Anthony Batts is talking above his pay grade.
