Tea Party Bashing- day two
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:20:39 AM »
I am not going to attempt to bring all the various posts over today- but hightlight any new memes or talking points the left is floating out.

Here is a new one: Hypocrits use public land, paid by taxes, to protest taxes.

Of course- they protesters are the ones who paid the taxes...so who's land is it really?

Majority of Teabagging Parties held in Public Parks. Paid for and maintained with "tax dollars"
Guess irony is not dead. I also wonder if these folks had any local law enforcement helping to ensure the peace. Again, all paid for with our tax dollars!

In the greatest irony of all, it turns out that a lot of these were planned, financed, and organized by Dick Armey's Freedom Corp, which just so happens to lobby for an represent such paragons of populism as AIG, Merril-Lynch and UBS!

So the anti-tax, anti-bailout, anti-spending protests were planned, organized and financed by a corporation that received the bail-outs these very people were demonstrating against. Orwell must be rolling in his grave, while Goebbels chuckles in his.

Personally, I won't truly be satisfied until one of these idiot wingnuts douses themselves with gasoline and lights themselves on fire...not faking it like Glen Beck...but, in the immortal words of Murtoch in Lethal Weapons; "don't just nibble on the barrell...PULL THE ****ING TRIGGER!!"

Second talking point- all the parties were organized by the hated VRWC.

The last paragraph is the only point where the poster speaks in his own voice- Kill the people who dare voice opposition!

Astroturf Tea Parties -- Fake Grass Roots
Not since Wiliam Randolph Hearst's promotion of the Spanish-American was has yellow journalism disguised itself to this extent as a populist movement. It should be called 'The Fox News Teabagging of tax rises for the wealthy.' It's fake grass roots. It's Astroturf.

AstroTurf Tea Parties Hosts on Fox News have been promoting anti-tax rallies around the country on April 15, Tax Day. They claim the events are grassroots-driven protests aimed at the current U.S. tax system. Research by progressive bloggers shows, however, the rallies are actually organized by well-funded think tanks run by lobbyists.

Know 5 Things:

1. The tea parties are organized by two large, well-funded, lobbyist-run think tanks.
2. Free Publicity and Hype on Fox News
3. Heavy Involvement From GOP Leaders .
4. What Do The Protesters Want?
Anti-TARP bailout.
5. Polls show “regular people” aren’t as interested in the protests.

Hosts on Fox News have been promoting anti-tax rallies around the country on April 15, Tax Day. They claim the events are grassroots-driven protests aimed at the current U.S. tax system. Research by progressive bloggers shows, however, the rallies are actually organized by well-funded think tanks run by lobbyists.

By Christy Harvey, Mic Check Radio
April 14, 2009

Know Five Things

1. The tea parties are organized by two large, well-funded, lobbyist-run think tanks.[Think Progress]

Americans for Prosperity: This group, run by Ralph Reed’s former lobbying partner Tim Phillips, is handling the PR and planning the events in the following states: New Jersey, Arizona, New Hampshire, Missouri, Kansas

Freedom Works: This group is run by former GOP Majority Leader Dick Armey. They have a) set up Web sites to promote the events that are supposed to look as if they’ve been set up by amateurs; b) written how-to guides and talking points for the events; c) coordinated conference calls among protesters and activists to give them “sign ideas, sample press releases, and a map of events around the country.”
2. Free Publicity and Hype on Fox News
Media Matters has documented the aggressive promotion of the anti-tax protests on Fox News: “Fox News has in dozens of instances provided attendance and organizing information for future protests, such as protest dates, locations and website URLs. Fox News websites have also posted information and publicity material for protests. Fox News hosts have repeatedly encouraged viewers to join them at several April 15 protests that they are attending and covering.” [Media Matters]
Promising “fair and balanced” coverage, hosts such as Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto, and Sean Hannity are all planning to broadcast live from the events. Fox News commentator Neil Cavuto defends the network’s coverage, saying Fox News covered the Million Man March, so it should be able to cover the tea parties. News Hounds, however, points out that the Million Man March took place on Oct. 16, 1995, while Fox News wasn’t created until Oct. 7, 1996. [Think Progress] [News Hounds]
3. Heavy Involvement From GOP Leaders
To stress the grassroots nature of the anti-tax protests, Fox News has stressed the event has no partisan agenda.
The Hill reports that the NRCC is using the event to raise money. The group sent an e-mail to supporters with a link to show them any local tea parties, then asked, “You cannot afford to allow the Democrats to continue their fiscally insanity. Please consider contributing $15, $25, $50 or more as we fight for you.” [The Hill]
An article on their Web site claimed “only two members of Congress — both Republicans — who have committed to attending the demonstrations on the day income taxes are due.” [Fox News]
On Fox’s show America’s Newsroom, host Megyn Kelly repeated the claim that “only two members of Congress have agreed to join in, in these events, one of them is South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.” [Think Progress]
Progressive blogs quickly found at least 12 GOP lawmakers involved in the protests.
Fox News then “corrected” its story, saying, “Editor’s Note: Following this FOXNews.com report, the Republican Study Committee surveyed 110 members and found 38 lawmakers who say they will participate in tea party activities on tax day.” [Fox News]
4. What Do The Protesters Want?
Anti-TARP bailout. According to the Web site, the biggest complaint is about the $700 billion TARP bailout of the banks (which happened more than 6 months ago at the behest of George W. Bush.)
Anti-Obama. From Paul Krugman: “Thus, President Obama is being called a ’socialist’ who seeks to destroy capitalism. Why? Because he wants to raise the tax rate on the highest-income Americans back to, um, about 10 percentage points less than it was for most of the Reagan administration. Bizarre.”
Anti-Stimulus. Another complaint is against the package designed to create 3.5 million jobs in the U.S.
Pro-Tax Cuts. Following a link from the Tea Party web site takes you to a “Tool Kit For Tea Parties,” on a site hosted by Newt Gingrich’s group “American Solutions.” Their solutions include: Tax cuts. Getting rid of the Capital Gains tax. Killing the Employee Free Choice Act. More drilling. Getting rid of Sarbanes-Oxley, the 2002 law created in the wake of the Enron scandals to provide oversight of large public corporations. [American Solutions]
5. Polls show “regular people” aren’t as interested in the protests.

A Fox News poll released on April 2 found only 36 percent of Americans said they would “be willing to join” a “tea party” protest. [Fox News]

Also:
Think Progress compiled a list of involved lawmakers and their venues. Also, “the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported yesterday that Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will be appearing at tea party protests as well. Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-MT), Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), and Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL) have also been urging their constituents to attend tea party protests while Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is sponsoring a bill in Congress to honor the protests.” [http://thinkprogress.org/2009/04/13/kelly-fox-tea-party/]

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT), Salt Lake City.
Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) and a representative from Rep. Sam Graves’ (R-MO) office, Overland Park
Rep. John Fleming (R-LA), Shreveport
Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-FL), Jacksonville
Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), Wauseon
Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), Phoenix
Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC), Charlotte
Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL), Brevard
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Longview
Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC), Columbia.

Campus Progressives is run by Center of American Progress...

Quote
Where We Stand on National Security
CAP’s national security approach embodies progressive traditions that have protected our nation and nurtured our democratic ideals and freedom at home and abroad. Our policy priorities secure our country from attack and protect our national security interests abroad by ensuring our military forces are capable and ready, and our democratic alliances are strong and enduring. We understand that integrated military, diplomatic, and economic power guided by progressive ideals makes us safer and more prosperous.

sounds pretty good...

Quote
Where We Stand on Immigration
The United States’ immigration system is broken. Illegal immigration is at an all time-high, with 12 million people living in the shadows. The backlog for potential legal immigrants waiting to enter the country is hopelessly long, which includes thousands of families who sometimes have to wait 10 years or more to be reunited. We need meaningful reform that requires that the undocumented become legal in order to maintain our security, allow our economy to grow, protect the wages of U.S. workers, honor and restore the rule of law, and respect our nation's tradition as a country of immigrants.

uh....legalize illegals? Is that what you are for?

Quote
Where We Stand on Energy and the Environment
CAP is pioneering progressive, 21st century policy proposals to transform our nation and our economy in ways that protect the global environment, boost global prosperity, and create sustainable sources of clean energy to reduce the world’s reliance on dirty, carbon-based energy. Our low-carbon policy priorities encourage comprehensive upgrades in the efficiency of energy production and consumption as well as environmentally safe and sustainable energy diversification. And our commitment to sound scientific energy and environmental technology innovation exemplifies progressive ideals and pragmatism at work.

Guess you are not for drilling, huh?

Quote
Where We Stand on the Economy
Our priorities for U.S. economic policymaking are strong economic growth, building opportunities so that all Americans can share in the American Dream, and widely shared prosperity. Our progressive economic priorities underscore our commitment to government that works for the common good.

another way of saying share the wealth..

No wonder they are against the fundamental ideas behind the Tea Parties.

MediaMatters: Fox Snooze really put the word out for TeaBag Fest

A Media Matters study found that from April 6 to April 13, Fox News featured at least 20 segments on the "tea party" protests scheduled to take place on April 15 and aired at least 73 in-show and commercial promotions for their April 15 coverage of the events.

Faux didn't want anyone to miss out on this earth shaking event.

Talking point- Fox News manufactured the event!

I'm not so sure about the dysmenopausal Kansas school teacher, who's older.  I used to keep track of the pattern of her own "hot flashes," but stopped that a while back.

If I were a mean person...
I would probably be really enjoying myself today.

I just watched some videos of the various Tea Party events that were held at various locations yesterday.

Now, IF I were a mean person, the kind of wicked sadist who delights in deliberately escalating and augmenting the paranoia of the poorly-informed, I would probably write something like this:

"Good work Comrades! Central Planning HQ in the White House basement estimates that we now have video footage of nearly seventy-six percent of the right-wing malcontents who need to be suppressed, oppressed, and re-educated. We know who they are. Every time we get them agitated enough to show up at one of these so-called "spontaneous, grass-roots" events, we identify a few more of them.

DARPA reports great success in coordinating the new facial recognition software with government ID files and data mining tools to gather ever more information about them. The more of them we can flush out (ha! Pun intended!) with coverage of "spontaneous, grass-roots" events, the more we can tag and mark for additional observation and information gathering through our Vast Network of Socialist Siblings.

We are hoping that additional "spontaneous, grass-roots" events will allow us to tag enough of these Enemies of the State to enable us to round them up and get them to the re-education camps without substantial opposition. Our deep-cover moles in the Fox News organization report that switching the coffee of targeted on-air personalities to double-shot espresso is having the desired effect. With each passing day, their frenzied ravings become less coherent and more motivating to their followers.

With luck, Comrades, we should have Our Glorious Leader's plan entirely implemented in time for the Juneteenth Coup!"

That's what I'd write if I were a mean person.

Fortunately, I'm not a mean person.

Am I?

Am I...?

naaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh...

virtuously,
Bright

We haven't seen the last of the Tea Baggers, not by a long shot...
 http://www.huckpac.com/?Fuseaction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=2...

Huckabee as well as many GOP "Leaders" are gonna use this "Movement" as their political platform. They will run this idea into the ground.

My conservative Friend who went to the Redding CA Tea Party sent me this from Huckabee:

Subject: Tea Parties = Round 1. What Should Happen Next?

"The Fair Tax rally I attended in Columbia and the nati onwide Tea Party rallies were round one of a nationwide movement of voter anger over tax dollars misspent on misplaced priorities by Democrats in Congress.

We must now begin to think about how we harness this energy constructively. I want to hear from you on this important matter. Please vote here in this poll and leave a comment on our blog.
In the 60 minutes since we posted the poll, over 800 people have cast their vote. I want to hear from you today and after you vote, please tweet this poll, add it to Facebook and send an email to your friends and family.

Vote today!

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee
"

Will this stimulate (sorry) the republican Party or are we seeing the creation of a new 'party'?

Of course... the DUmpmonkiez are furious.

Want to DU a Fox Tea bag poll?????
Should members of Congress be paying more attention to the anti-tax 'tea party' protests? 83% Yes, 17 % No.
I know we can change that.

My Day with the Tea Baggers (Image and sarcasm heavy)
Sorry so long, but hey all the tea bagging commentary fun without having to stand there for 2 hours listening to them scream it in your ear, like i had to.

Today's adventures began at 11am at the Downtown Chico City Plaza, where I had expected to bare witness to a bunch of conservative hate mongers railing on and on about Obama's race and their fear that he'll take their guns, but What i was met with was "Senior-Palooza", at least a hundred people gathered with "clever" little signs and to my surprise mostly protested on the merits of their less tax, less spending ideals. But there were of course a few of those "fringe right wing nut jobs" there to add some drama.

I'll start off with the first thing i saw and while I didn't agree with the message he had, i still could appreciate the flag design.

The Rude Pundit - The Tea Parties: So That Happened
Yesterday, thousands of poor and middle-class people were manipulated into helping rich people keep more of their money. It's sort of like going to a Yankees game, but without the souvenirs. (TP1: Tea Parties are a way for the rich toi keep their moneiez?)

The Rude Pundit thinks it's generally a good thing when large groups of people come together for a cause, and, agree or disagree with the cause, getting people in the habit of protesting is ultimately positive for the nation. It gives us a more European feel, where citizens tend to actually give a shit about what their government is doing. Would that many of the people holding up signs yesterday had respected our antiwar marches back in 2003 and 2004, but, hey, water under a bridge built of bones, you know. (TP2: The people were marching about the wrong issue!)

What is stunning is that yesterday's Tea Party protests were based on a demonstrable, factual lie. It wasn't about interpreting something or opinions. No, what people were protesting was actually a falsehood. They were played for suckers while they thought they were saving democracy. It was a bait and switch, man, a con game that was more dishonest than sidewalk three-card monte. (TP3: The people were lied too, and that's all this was about...what was the lie, you ask? Move along, move along...)

The whole day was filled with Fox-fanned falsehoods, starting with the whole acronym the protests adopted after "teabag" became the subject of mucho deserved mocking. "Taxed Enough Already" presupposes that taxes will be raised. And it seems that the tea partyers simply think that Barack Obama is lying to them when he says that the taxes for the vast, vast majority of Americans are lower under his plan. (On his radio show, Alan Colmes was screaming at callers who kept insisting that Obama was raising taxes for everyone.) The protests were against some fantasy administration, a sandwich of fascism on a socialism bun covered in a secret sauce of tyranny. It's like prayer: you can't really prove that it matters, but, hey, someone told you it was a good idea to do it, so down on your knees you go. (TP4: These parties were 'astroterf" organized by FOX and other rich republicans neo-cons.)

But it's not just the concept of being "taxed enough" that was a chimera. The Fox "news" hosts built the day around a fantasy America, as if we were all in a 1950s elementary school history class being force-fed the long-disproved myths of the nation. (TP4, continued)

Take, for instance, this one that Taste of Texas restaurant owner Nina Hendee told Glenn "Twitchy" Beck while they were standing outside the Alamo in San Antonio: "The night before the Alamo fell, (Col. William B.) Travis gathered his men in this courtyard, took out his saber right there, and this is where the line in the sand came from. He drew -- history says -- he drew the line in the sand right here and said, 'If you'll will stand with me and fight with me, you may die with me, come and cross this line with me,' and they did." Beck returned to that "line in the sand" again and again in his broadcast yesterday, as when he yammered, "I have a feeling something big is starting with the tea parties and I think the line is being drawn in the sand once again." (TP5: Texas, and Texans, suck)

Except, you know, Travis didn't draw a line in the sand at the Alamo. He was kind of a dick, too. And let's not even get into why the Alamo was there in the first place. (TP5, continued: Travis was a right-wing neo-con)

Later, on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren's Nose Job, Beck echoed himself: "Everybody's always heard, you know, draw a line in the sand. This is where it happened. They drew a line in the sand and said, Enough is enough." Which is a misreading based on a lie. Even if the line story was true, the soldiers knew they were gonna die. (TP5, continued; gods, I hate fox news...)

Compound this with the near-constant, unrelenting gang rape of the Founders by Fox and the tea partyers. Sean Hannity had on the creepy ****in' Thomas Paine actor and, really, they may as well skull-****ed the real Paine's bones, each taking a hole so Hannity and the old guy could rub their cocks against each other. Said faux Paine, "My name is Thomas Paine. In 1776, I wrote, 'The sun never shined on a cause of greater worth.' Now, my fellow Americans, it's your moment to change the course of history. On this night in Atlanta, Georgia, citizen Sean Hannity and the rest of an aroused nation will hear from you as we the people once again declare our independence." Of course, Paine was advocating for war with Great Britain. Yeah, "Common Sense" even lays out the military strategy and the postwar economic situation. Oh, and he was also specifically advocating for the unity of the colonies, not really for any kind of states' rights. But, sure, yeah, he did write that thing about the sun. (TP6: The Tea Parties have nothing to do with the 'real' tea party, dammit! and T. Paine was a neo-con too.)

How *******ed simple-minded this whole tea party thing was. How divorced from reality. What a waste of time, of energy, of paper and ink. All it succeeded in doing was propping up some egos, giving understandably frustrated people a place to misdirect their anger, and allowing there to be an hour of TV that featured Ted Nugent, Penn Jillette, and Janine Turner, like Hell's Tonight Show. (TP7: Tea Party goers are just too stupid to realize they've been had.)

One last thing: Unless Joe the Plumber starts snakin' some ****in' pipes, he has to drop the title. (TP8: ridicule anyone on the right, rather than debate what they say)

So is this it? Do we let the teabaggers have the last word?

I got to hand it to them - as insane as they are, they pulled it off....you've gotta admit that.

They're pissed and they started a movement. It's only going to grow.

Do we sit back and watch them and complain and talk about what a bunch of assholes they are, because afterall we won the election and they need to get over it.

Or do we counter with a movement of our own?

You already have a movement...

10. If that was their last word, yeah. I've heard more eloquence from babies.
That was an unfocused display of anger on a day when people are always expressing anger. It was poorly planned, and poorly executed. Without a clear agenda of which way to go, it was a useless exercise.

The best thing for us would be if this did stick around. It may have been started by the Republicans, but there was honest anger in their, too, and those folk aren't going to like the Republicans any better than the Democrats once they try to organize and actually affect change. It will wind up like the Perot movement of the 90s--noisy but impotent, and ultimately ineffectual. It will split the anger at the Democrats between the Republicans and the new party/movement, and we will benefit.

This won't help the Republicans, it was just masturbation on their part. It might hurt them. Either way, I think sitting back and mocking their poorly spelled signs is our best response. That, and waiting to see what Obama's plans do for the economy. If he succeeds, people will notice the economy doing better and their taxes being lower, and they will ignore the Republicans. If he fails, not much we do will help, anyway.

Just my thoughts. They are quite open to change, but at the moment, that's how I see it.

19. they lost the election
many were near suicidal with loathing for Obama and the Democrats. Now they feel better, more hopeful that they matter. Mayhaps this victory will allow for more clear thinking. Once they see who and what they rallied for (the rich} they may indeed demand fairness.

hey, they are our fellow AmeriKans, Fox has abused them for years, they are brainwashed. I say we respectfully attempt to educate them.

Lots of projection, lots of anger, lots of stupid...

WOW. CNN's Susan Roesgen Just Reamed The Tea Baggers Live
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 02:30 PM by mudesi
I wish I was recording it. One tea bagger had a Hitler/Obama sign and when she asked him why you'd call the president of the United States a "fascist", and told him that it was very offensive to say such a thing, all he had to say was "Because he is".

Then she went to another one with a 2 year old who started spouting and YELLING all kinds of bullshit about Lincoln and she tried to call him out but he kept shouting like a big baby who wants his bottle. Edit: I want to make it clear that it was the FATHER of the two year old who was acting like a baby!

I want to say Thank You to Susan Roesgen for at least trying to expose these assholes for what they are. She also made sure to point out that these protests are funded by major right wing organizations and she specifically named Fox News.

They may see the CNN reporter, but they have yet to see their own hypocrisy about when they all called Bush Hitler or worse.

This primitive has to be majorily messed up in the head to claim that's what happened.  Of course, liberals lie, all the time.

Given the various comments from yesterday and today, if it's the primitives desire that everyone fall in lock-step behind B. Hussein for the good of the country, they sure don't know a lot about how to conduct a proper PR campaign.
