Progressives now find themselves in an awkward position of simultaneously wishing Barack Obama well, but feeling dismayed by his policies on some key issues, most notably the banking bailout. If this were a normal economic situation, the posture of semi-opposition would not be that big a deal. We would simply gratefully accept the decent policies and keep pressing for bolder ones. But a failure to revive the banking system would be Obama's Vietnam. It would wreck everything else.

It's a too-familiar position for progressives, one that winds back through all of the postwar Democratic administrations of my adulthood. We wanted Lyndon Johnson to push harder for civil rights and anti-poverty and not ruin it all in Vietnam. We were appalled at Jimmy Carter's attacks on government, his failure to use his large Democratic majority in Congress to press for progressive legislation, his refusal to lift a finger on behalf of labor law reform. The memories of Bill Clinton are sufficiently recent that we need little reminder of the needless tilt to the right on economic issues from NAFTA to welfare reform to financial deregulation.

Hmmmm how do they KNOW they read all correspondence sent to them?  I have sent things that have simply never arrived via email.  I have also inadvertently deleted good email whilst sifting through all the spam I get.

So basically, they don't give a damn if you don't get back in their 'club'.  Hope you DUmmies are wise to that.  They don't really want you there but we do.  You are our cheap entertainment!

   To clarify: leftchick was not banned for the thread linked to in the OP, she was banned for a long pattern of behavior. The moderators were generous enough to warn her about this three weeks ago but apparently she didn't care

We have and always will allow criticism of Democrats. It's written into the rules:

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted.

But so is this:

When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

Since then she made several personal attacks on other members, with frequent use of the word "bot" to describe someone defending Barack Obama. Then she posted this image in response to a member who said that they trust Obama:

I'll be honest - all three of the Admins are getting tired of coming to our own website and looking at crap like that day after day, and I don't think we're the only ones. We've never made a secret of the fact that this is a website that supports Democrats, and most of our members approve of Obama and what he's doing. Some don't and that's fine because after all, constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted.

But the bottom line is that it's our job to facilitate discussion here. If you are running around repeatedly referring to other members of this community as "cheerleaders" or "bots", or even using "Obama supporters" as a derogatory term - then you will eventually get into trouble. You don't have to agree with everything Barack Obama does to be a member of DU, but if you can't call yourself an "Obama supporter" then one can't help but wonder what you're doing here.

And if you can't disguise your total contempt for other members of this community because they support the Democratic president on a Democratic website then you are not here to have a discussion, you are just here to drop a turd in the punchbowl. If you continue to do this even after you have been politely warned of the consequences - then what do you expect will happen?

I'm sorry, but we just don't think that this position is all that unreasonable.
