TGIF!
« on: February 15, 2008, 07:37:49 AM »
Finally Friday, folks  :cheersmate:  Although it is a bit nippy outside, the sun is shining, and it is supposed to get up in the mid 60's today.

Today is the first day of a swimming class that I signed the baby up for. I know she'll love the pool, because she did last year.
After that, it's the usual work and task of cleaning  the house  :whatever:  :hammer:

TOTD: What was your favorite TV show when you were a kid? Mine would be the Brady Bunch, I confess  :loser: I also liked Sesame Street (little, little kid), The Electric Company, Leave it To Beaver, and The Dukes of Hazzard.

Friday...Was going to go to the grocery store this morning, but woke up with one of those nasty headaches that wrap around the back of your head, so I'm going to wait on that.   Gonna do some laundry and some general picking up.

Housecleaning...I like to get it all done on Fridays so I can enjoy the weekend and just charge the brood with keeping things up(although it usually is a disaster by Monday) :bawl: Paying bills...I'm going to put grocery shopping off until Sunday night I think.

I'm working on getting a communication device for my son so that is my mission today to get the cert of med nec. from the doctor and then I'm just waiting on the stuff from his speech path from school.  :hyper: Everyone's on board so I'm hoping this will move fairly quickly. He uses PECS now so this is the next step up.

TOTD: Captain Kangaroo, Dukes of Hazzard, The Waltons :loser:, Scooby Doo...then MTV and Friday Night Videos came around about the time I hit the teens and that pretty much held my interest over anything else until I grew up some.

I didn't watch television as a kid; it didn't make sense to me.

It wasn't until I reached adulthood that I understood how real life imitates television.

Anyway, one show I always wanted to see was Columbo.

People in real life tell me that I in real life remind them very much of Peter Falk; the guy who "acts" like an absent-minded bumbling idiot, but who already has things figured out.

Or so I've been told.

Have a long list of chores which I'm actively avoiding by posting here :-)

TOTD: Love Boat, MASH (cuz I'm a damned commie!), Fantasy Island, Three's Company, Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers, soap operas

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Morning! Not sure what I am doing, I can't really plan anything with a baby. I do know I need to start a shopping list and a guest list very soon. The Birthday will be upon us soon. I need to find a ton of Strawberry Shortcake stuff as well as planning two types of cakes. I know red velvet is one. I also have to get to a Micheal's to find a SS dress, she is going to look soooooo cute!! Be aware, this will be my obession for the next month. :-)

TOTD: I loved the Smurfs, the Electric Company, Punky Brewster, Reading Rainbow, Jem, and Mr. Roberston Neighborhood, may he rest in peace. :(

Okay, just got back from another test.  You know me and my attitude... I think I got a B.    :p

Just gave CC a nice little gift.  ;)

TOTD:  As I am younger, my favorite tv shows  from my childhood may differ.    I loved Reading Rainbow, and for my more immature side, Salute Your Shorts.  I miss the days when Nickelodeon actually had some funny shows.  I also loved the Nick cartoons back then.

TOTD:  Kaptain Kangaroo.  I remember wondering if Mr Green Jeans really wore green jeans, cause the show was black & white.  I also liked "I Love Lucy" and "Leave it to Beaver".   :uhsure:

You and me both, girl. I have 3 birthdays in a row...all 3 children. I have to start thinking about Ryan's since it is only a month away and he is finally into the birthyday type of thing despite his autism. Good luck with organizing it.  :-*

Oh.My.God. I forgot ALL about Friday Night Videos and MTV!!!!!! When Friday Night Videos came out is when the sleepovers really started happening, and we were wide-eyed when that came on...and I STILL remember the video for that song, "Micky"  :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Never got to watch the Waltons as a kid, but guess what I got for Christmas this year???? The DVD box set  :rotf: :rotf:

I think I'm officially going on strike with the housecleaning  For some reason, it has become a MAJOR bone of conention for me. I think it has to do with feeling used and like a doormat or something...<said in that Robert Barone voice>...I'm the maid...I'm the cook...I'm the babysitter <sigh>

Anyway, instead of seeing how nice and great I can keep the house like I've done for the past 18 years, my new goal will be to see how quickly I can get it to look like one of those homes on that show on BBCA "How Clean Is Your House"

That birthday party sounds adorable!!!

A friend of mine (Sophia's boyfriend's Mom  :-)) tried to make her little one's first birthday cake. She tried a month in advance (good planning, for her!). Her cake? A choo-choo train, with individual cars. THAT sounds pretty tough for a beginner, and she couldn't quite work it out (and she will be taking a cake decorating class). She ended up getting him a smash cake and a cake for all the adults. The adult cake had the automotive theme going on,and he wore an  outfit with trains, trucks, etc. on it.

Now, I on the other hand...haven't a CLUE what to do for her birthday, and it will be a month and a half away  :thatsright: :hammer: I am thinking of maybe doing her own little smash cake, but I have NO "theme" idea whatsoever, and of ALL years, the first year is the year that the Mom can pretty much do whatever she wants, because by next year, they have their own little interest. The only thing that comes to mind is I've seen the really frilly birthday hats and/or tierras (that she will pull off LOL, but it is a really nice keepsake), and I had thought of maybe doing that with a dress of tulle or something.

You are inspiring me, and I enjoy your enthusiasm  :hyper: The red velvet cake is PERFECT to go with the Strawberry Shortcake theme, too!

I'm at work, watching the desk while the receptionist is at lunch.  I have a ton of stuff to do, but for the next hour I'll be doing a whole lotta nothing.

TOTD:  Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Carebears, Sesame Street.  Then as I got a little older I Love Lucy and I watched a ton of Perry Mason (my mom's favorite show).

Thanks! This is a GREAT site http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/ to help you for theme ideas. I am also thinking of doing a potluck, cheaper that way. We are also planning on doing it at a near by park so the kids can run around and NOT tear up my house. LOL! I have put in a request to the VRWC weather machine that it will be a nice day and NOT rain.

My first pet was a cat.  I begged and begged for one.  I was three when I got her.  I immediately named her Custard, just like Strawberry Shortcake's cat.  She lived to be 20 years old.  :)

I also own all the Strawberry Shortcake videos that were out when I was a kid.  I got them all on ebay quite a few years ago.  My SIL is pregnant (she's got 2 boys already) and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a girl just so I can inundate her with the videos.

I went a little nuts.  I also bought a metal Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox with thermos.  What the heck am I ever going to us that for, and I spent like $40 on it.   ::)

When I was 3 or 4 I went as Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween.  My mom found all the perfect fabric for it any everything.  And she found these womens thigh high tights that were green and white striped.  My mom laughed and laughed, because the heel of the foot went up to my knee.  LOL.
