NYT: bodies of as many as 25 boys and men suspected of being gay have turned up
BAGHDAD — The relative freedom of a newly democratic Iraq and the recent improvement in security have allowed a gay subculture to flourish here. The response has been swift and deadly.

In the past two months, the bodies of as many as 25 boys and men suspected of being gay have turned up in the huge Shiite enclave of Sadr City, the police and friends of the dead say. Most have been shot, some multiple times. Several have been found with the word “pervert” in Arabic on notes attached to their bodies, the police said.

“Three of my closest friends have been killed during the past two weeks alone,” said Basim, 23, a hairdresser. (stereotype? nah...) “They had been planning to go to a cafe away from Sadr City because we don’t feel safe here, but they killed them on the way. I had planned to go with them, but fortunately I didn’t.”

Basim, who preferred to be called “Basima” — the feminine version of his name — wears his hair long for Iraq. It falls to just below the ear. His ears are pierced, uncommon for Iraqi males. White makeup covers his face, a popular look for gay men in Sadr City who say they prefer light skin.

That is 25 bodies in ONE city alone. Absolutely sickening.

Maybe barry will deside we need to stay to protect all the gheys. Wouldn't that be justified?

1. What was oppression of gays like under Saddam?
Have things actually gotten worse, as they have for Iraqi women?

DUmmies continually exhibit their stupidity for the all to see.  It's just not in Iraq that gays are killed, it's every Muslim country.  Imadinnajacket was being serious when he said there were no homosexuals in Iran, it's because they were all dead.

This sort of thing is what makes liberalism so amazingly transparent.  They have to support their enemies, the ones who treat homosexuals as perverts worthy of death and women like cattle, in order to support their own desire to make right wrong, good evil, white black, decency immoral, and common sense absurd.

It's not easy being a liberal.  A liberal has to hate himself for what he is in order for it to work, because even a liberal is subject to human nature and the involuntary ability to know the real truth and undeniable reality..

Saddam ran them thru the shredder the instant he found them. Feet first. He was not a nice man.

Funny thing is that Fred Phelps, a RAT, thinks Muslims are "fags" and "fag enablers", yet he is no different from the Jihadists.  ::) :mental:

19. Nice to see all that democracy and freedom spreading
 Heckofajob, there, Bushie, heckofajob.

It was all Boooosh's fault! Oh, and Mr. Mann, IIRC, there were a few mentions where Christians and the Religious Right were blamed. Natch.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

2. Probably worse.
Above all else, he was a secular authoritarian who understood the threat Islamic fundementalism (Shia and Sunni) presented to him. He came down pretty hard on them...as well as any political threats to his regime, of course. Given he had the most progressive ME country with regards to a woman's role in society, I suspect he was far more tolerant of gays than the current power brokers in Iraq today.

From what I see, this is Iraqi violence on Iraqis. Seems like the religion of peace doesn't play well with others. All the more reason to blame bush.
