The Rhett Butler primitive doesn't understand a basic fundamental elementary characteristic of American politics, or of physics.
For every action, there is an equally strong reaction.
Politics are not static; they are constantly evolving, constantly shifting.
If there were 100 socialists in the U.S. Senate, for example, which apparently is what the Rhett Butler primitive wants, inevitably they would splinter (either amicably or otherwise), as things seek an "equilibrium."
It's a damned good thing, too.
