AP – Wreaths in the memory of three Pittsburgh Police officers who were shot and killed responding to a 911 Link
Not only were their lives lost, but their deaths were likely preventable.
It might have made the officers deaths preventable, but I'm curious how it wouldn't have escalated out of control - most likely as a "hostage situation", with the man's mother as the hostage, the moment he saw a heavier response than there was rolling up the street.
It is tragic that good men such as those officers were lost last weekend. There are times that I find it absolutely miraculous that good men and women still volunteer to step into thoses ranks when places like Philadelphia have all but declared open season on their law enforcement officers. But let us never forget that these great men died doing what they were trained and chose to do - to stand in harms way between the good people of society and the wolves in our midst.
