Murtha gets highest civilian Navy award
« on: March 27, 2009, 07:41:16 AM »
I guess he was rewarded for falsely calling the Marines murderers... :whatever:

Quote
In one of his last moves before leaving office March 13, then-Navy Secretary Donald Winter quietly awarded 19-term Democratic congressman John Murtha (Pa.) with the service's highest civilian honor.

Citing Murtha's "courageous leadership, vision, and loyalty to the men and women of the Department of the Navy," Winter presented the influential chairman of the House Appropriations Committee's defense panel with the Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award, an honor bestowed in "those extraordinary cases where individuals have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or the Department of the Navy as a whole," a Murtha release stated.

The award generated little publicity when it was given to Murtha in early March, but as news of the honor trickled out, some veterans groups ignited a firestorm of protest.

emphasis mine.

I might have been Navy, but I know the difference between FORMER Marines and EX-Marines.

Place Congressman Murtha in the EX-Marine category, if you don't mind.  Any FORMER Marines have any objection to that?

One would think that giving such a prestigious award to such a high profile individual would merit media attention.  Why was it done so quietly?  Hmmmmmm.   :fuelfire:

It's there precedence in the Corps to actually make someone an Ex Marine?

If I recall properly it's been done once or twice before.

I think we cold make a case for the Generals at 8th & I to do it again in Murtha's case.

Well Al Gore got a Nobel Prize too.  Nothing seems to have as much meaning as it once did.

Sorry man....they've devalued the dollar and now they're working on devaluing medals that honor our brave.

This scumbag does not even merit the title of EX-Marine.
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.
