Saw Watchmen tonight!!!
« on: March 16, 2009, 12:10:52 AM »
Holy Hell.

That was easily one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I've read the graphic novel to shreads over the years and I was really encouraged by the buzz and the pre-production stuff I was seeing.

It did not dissapoint!

And as a hard core fanboy I have to admit that I liked the cinema ending better than the GN one.

Nor do I.

I saw it a week ago (last Saturday) having NOT finished the graphic novel (so the ending shocked me).   Amazing movie indeed.  Jackie Earl Haley blew me away even more than the other actor I was eager to see (Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian).  His portrayal of Rorschach gave me chills, especially with that voice.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...

This movie NEEDS to be seen on a big ass screen.

Even if you know nothing about the story it is a kick ass film!

Super hero movie set in an alternate timeline where Nixon is on his 5th term after winning Viet Nam with the aide of their equivilent of Super Man. And where being a super hero is forbidden by federal law.

And the country is on the verge of WWIII with the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.

LOL!  You need to thank a friend of mine for getting me to read the novel.  I rarely read comics (or ANYTHING other than a textbook) these days, but my friend Jeff wouldn't shut up about it, so I borrowed his copy and read about 3/4 of it (before getting my butt dragged to the Regal, because SOMEONE couldn't contain himself... :p but I was excited to get to see it.)  Loved the novel.

they really did get the casting right, but especially Rorschach.

Yep, and there's nothing like surround sound to make this movie absolutely worthwhile.

PS: Since theatre food prices have gone up again, I suggest to all of you to sneak in food and only buy the ticket and drink there.  I bought gummy worms elsewhere and put them in my purse (a much cheaper option that I've been exercising for awhile  :uhsure:).

Sounds like something from a Harry Turtledove book (the alternate universe storyline), or the Dark Knight (where being a superhero is against the law).  I read the reviews from bbspot.com and slashdot.org and have a vauge notion about some "alternate energy" hoopla.

Movie theaters are only fun for sneaking beer in.  The ones around here are pretty crappy... the one I used to go to as a child is now a dollar matinee during the week.  I'll just wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray and watch it at my parent's home theater.

Yeah but what the villain DOES with that "Alternate Energy" source is totally fracking cool!

BTW have you read Turtledove's Atlantis books yet?

I think there's a theatre in Statesboro that actually houses a restaurant inside one of the movie theatres and they served beer there too.  Dunno if its still there or not... it's been a couple years.

The theatres here in Savannah are smaller, but more than modern enough.  Regal is my theatre of choice because of my Crown Club card... Carmike Wynnsong is not my favorite place to go, though (bad service).

No, I only read that one book where the white South Africans brought AK-47s with them using a time machine.  It was so stupid, I never read another. :-)

Raleigh has one really nice theater.  I heard the one here in Franklin/Cool Springs is really nice but I haven't been there.  Raleigh also has a dinner theater but I forgot the name.  Basically a movie theater with a restaurant inside instead of regular seating.

I went to see some Reese Witherspoon movie in the theatre with the restaurant back when I was at GSU.  Just ordered nachos and a Coke, since I DID have to drive back to the dorm by myself. LOL   Wish I could find a theatre here with that set-up.

Hell, I wish I could fine one here.  That now-matinee theater has been messed up for awhile.  Busted sewer pipes (the smell), sticky floors.  I don't think it would work at Bell Forge.

They closed the one at Nippers Corner.  It was just across the street from the library in my neighborhood. :(

There is a one screen theatre here that is a temp set up in a large room that normally holds Bingo.

It's ok, but if there are too many people there, it's hard to see, as all the seats are on one level.

There is supposed to be an 8 plex going up right next door to me, but now the bank funding is on hold.  :censored:

Most drive to Vegas for Movies, I have never seen one in Vegas. Sounds fun.

Saw this the other night. My advice for anybody is to read the book. Really.

I initially liked it over all (tho still found it on the better side of mediocre), but the more I think about it the more I dislike it.

Cool, I should be able to buy a copy from the Haji mart before the end of the week.
