Super Saturday
« on: March 14, 2009, 07:57:31 AM »
Cold now at 22 degrees, but warming up to 48 today, and a whopping 53 tomorrow!  :yahoo:

Already got second load of laundry in the wash, beef stew in the slow cooker (I thought I had taken out hamburger, don't ask), and maybe a few beers will die at my hand later today.

I don't know if they're working today or not.  I just told the boss I wasn't coming in, and since the job we're doing is just lighting and not mandatory OT, he was good with it.  Two.  Days.  Off.  YES!

Still no ideas for vacation.  Almost certainly staying close to home.

What's in your world this morning?

I had to turn on the space heater, I woke up with hard nipples.

By noon it will be 80 and I have the weekend off.

Cool here again today.  Almost back to the land of the living...eating solid food (toast) for the first time since Thursday, and hoping my somach doesn't revolt.

Slept most of the afternoon yesterday, and for 12 hours last night, never got out of bed in between.

Might take the kids shopping this afternoon...I'll see if I continue to feel better...Mr Flame's bithday is Friday, so we need to get on the ball.

That shit (pardon the pun) is going around. I have had a touch of it a couple times this week and yesterday afternoon/last night it was starting to kick my ass.

Tuesday at work, it felt like I was being kicked in the gut everytime I moved.

Get well quick!

yep, that's exactly what if feels like...now it's not so much getting kicked in the gut, more like what if feels like a couple days AFTER being kicked in the gut, just the lingering "awareness" that you have internal organs.

So far so good today.

It's been a lovely day here and I have been very productive. I have sowed some tomato, pepper and herb seeds which are now sitting on the window sill. I have also cleaned and disinfected a retro 1950s/60s kitchen dresser that I am hoping to restore, the next step will be to do some minor repairs and paint it with primer then I can do the fun part which is to pick the colour(s) for the top coat of paint.

I've been doing laundry and housework most of the morning.  I slept in until 8:30 and it was wonderful  :-)

I'm going to see Cats tonight with a friend.  I don't really care too much about the play, but it will be nice to spend some time with her :)

Meh, plans changed here.  We did go to the mall for a little while to try to find a new purse for me as my Fossil purse is just too small ... nothing stood out.  I'll just get on Amazon or Zappos and see what they have.

The temperature here dropped dramatically, so we're just hanging around the house now.  Dinner will be a big pot of spicy CHILI!  :hyper:  (so much better than going out, anyway).

All is well here. Got to sleep in today whoo hoo! I can't wait for sunshine and warmth and for this nasty flu bug to quit being passed around.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dallas.  I'm kinda tipsy and I just got home.  I see a nap in my future before my night out tonight.

Got all the stuff here.  Going to plant the starter box in the next couple of weeks.  Any sooner and the plants would grow out of their boxes before I could transplant them--we get frosts WELL into April.

So far I've got:

Herbs: (Cilantro, sweet basil, chives, majoram, oregano, parsley, rosemary, among others)

Veggies: Sugar snap peas, summer squash, tomatoes (three types), cukes, onions (green and white)

Fruit: Strawberry plants, two blackberry bushes, two (more) raspberry and blueberry bushes.

I'm gonna be eatin REAL good come July/August.

I don't have much luck with strawberry plants, I can grow strawberries OK but the plants tend to die completely at the end of the season still I like homegrown strawberries so it's worth the expense of buying new plants each year.

I'm at my mom's fixing her computer.  The repair shop fubar'ed the hard drive, but at least they left their diagnostic software in the drive.  Hey, free software.

She bought a Mac.  This thing has an enormous screen -- it's the size of a television.

I should be banned from Whole Foods...  :thatsright:

I decided to go check out their fantastic bakery to find something for my mom's birthday.  Shockingly, they didn't have any cakes that my mom would like, so I got a chocolate silk pie instead.

Also grabbed some Irish cheese (Kerrygold Ivernia...YUM!), chocolate cherry bread, freshly ground peanut butter ( I LOVE being able to grind my own peanut butter at Whole Foods), and a new kind of apple I'd never even heard of.

All of those items cost me $35.  :loser:

Thank Gawd.

8 Hours of classroom time today and I never have to take that stupid course again.  I've been trying to take it for 4 freaking years and everytime something has come up and I've missed it.  I was half afraid there would be an eathrquake or one the instrucors would get eaten by Pandas and it would get canceled today.

Woot!

Ate some chicken for dinner and kicking back in the hotel room.

While heading to California today, I seen alot of the particpants in this race:

Quote
SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Twenty Coast Guard runners, and more than 25 volunteers will converge on the desert outside Baker Calif. this Saturday for the 25th Annual Baker to Vegas Law Enforcement Challenge Cup Relay.
The race starts on the outskirts of Baker, Calif., a small town north-east of Los Angeles and takes the teams 120 miles over the Ibex Pass, down to the edge of Death Valley, and then over Mountain Springs Summit to the finish line in Las Vegas. Twenty Runners will each take a “leg” and pass a time-chipped baton between them until the finish at the Las Vegas Hilton. Last year the inaugural Coast Guard team ran the course, in 17 hours, 41 minutes.

â€œThere is a lot of challenge in this race. Each leg is just about six miles but the difficulty is not just in the mileage itself. We have the heat in the desert, where it can be 80 to 90 degrees, the wind blowing, as well as significant elevation gain,” said Lt. Brian Bruns, last years team captain.

Over 4000 runners from law enforcement teams worldwide! They are still out there in the dark and will run all night

Running there in March?  Pussies.

LINK

135 miles.  130 degrees.  60 hour time-limit.  No teams--individuals only.  Starts in Death Valley (282 feet below sea level) and goes to the Whitney Portal on Mt. Whitney (elevation 8360 feet).  These crazy bastards train in saunas for this race.  Last year's winner did it in just under 23 hours.

Thanks for the link, the badwater race would take years to get ready for! That is amazing they can run that far in all that heat.

The Baker to Vegas race used to be in May, but in March they get alot more participants!
