BARTOW | It's three years of probation for Mercades Nichols, one of the principal defendants in the infamous videotaped beating of a Mulberry High School cheerleader.
Circuit Judge Keith Spoto sentenced the 18-year-old Friday as part of an agreement in which Nichols pleaded guilty to battery and tampering with a witness.
Prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of kidnapping, which carried a maximum sentence of life in prison.
She and her four remaining co-defendants are responsible for paying $1,752 in restitution to the family of the victim, Victoria Lindsay. Nichols also must do 100 hours of community service.
