My wife brought this to my attention.  Yeah, she got it though World Net Daily, but it's to David Wilkerson's blog directly.

AN URGENT MESSAGE

I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message to all on our mailing list, and to friends and to bishops we have met all over the world.

AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. IT IS GOING TO BE SO FRIGHTENING, WE ARE ALL GOING TO TREMBLE - EVEN THE GODLIEST AMONG US.

For ten years I have been warning about a thousand fires coming to New York City. It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires—such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago.

There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting—including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God’s wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written,

“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (v. 3).

Ya gotta go to the link for the rest.

He must be referring to the election of President Obama.

Look, I don't know.  I just put it in here.  If you think it's too, well, "spurious," by all means, get rid of it.

Yeah, I'm up for the Obama reference.  :cheersmate:

I wasn't trying to dismiss your post, BSS. I was just being a bit of a smart aleck.

I liken Mr. Wilkerson's warning to that of a rumor or speculation. It's so vague but there's just enough information to incite strong emotions in a person.

On a much smaller scale, I've had to learn how to deal with rumors and speculations at work over the past few months. If I had taken as truth everything I heard, I would have gone insane.

A counselor told me I need to focus on what is tangible and real, not on what may happen down the road. By doing this, I've saved myself a lot of unnecessary worry and fear and stress.

I'm applying this thinking to Mr. Wilkerson's grand prediction. Could it be true? Absolutely. Is there anything I can do to stop it? No.

The only thing I can do is focus on the challenges God has presented me with today. I trust that He will provide for me tomorrow and the next day and the day after that no matter what calamity or non-calamity takes place.

I don't think it's spurious, it is something that is on the minds of many people (in many countries - see the riots in Lithuania and Greece for example) and is definitely a topic worth considering. I thought about moving it to Religion but it seems to me it is a topic which could take a number of paths so it is good here in GD.

His advice to lay in a 30 day food supply is good advice for anyone (although 30 days may be a low estimate).

For what it's worth, Drudge now has a link to the story at World Net Daily--in catastrophe red!

It's fine in General Discussion.  I used the headline from Drudge.
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

Aren't those who falsely prophesy in the name of God supposed to be put to death?
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

They were in OT times...but you've got to prove it's false first.  I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he's right...our president is doing all he can to assure a disaster, everything from making energy and tobacco too expensive for most people, to admitting that he doesn't have the guts to win the WOT.  We'll see both riots and attacks soon.

While I normally dismiss with prejudice all things put out by World Net Daily, that this is a link to David Wilkerson does change my views a bit.

Wasn't this supposed to happen in 2000, then got put off till 2012?    :whatever:

He's shared the same vision of a major catastrophe befalling the US, since the seventies I believe.  However he's never set a date, that I'm aware of.  If you read his writings, and the theological interpretation of the vision, I feel you'd be hard-pressed to find biblical fault with it; IMHO or at least I'm not aware of any problems.

The point i'm trying to make is we have people doing this all the time.  What really makes this guy anymore accurate then anyone else?

I look to Jesus, not some schmuck I've never heard of before:

Quote
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

David Wilkerson is one of the few real preachers who have worked tirelessly to help people in this world.  Not once has he been involved in any nasty business.  I have read several of his books.  He isn't a crack pot.  While it may be easy to dismiss him as a schmuck, what can you base that on?

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent [man] looketh well to his going. Proverbs 14:15

Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish. Jeremiah 27:9-10

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matthew 7:15-16

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Yeah, L. Ron Hubbard wrote a lot of books too.  Respected preachers have been predicting the imminent end of the world as long as there have been preachers (And I include sun, rock, and moon worshippers in that).  Sure, he could be right, but he'd be the first one of about a million guys like him that was.  When predictions are based entirely on a revelation to the faithful, there is no way to tell when they're right as opposed to being based on a nightmare after too much spicy food the night before.

No 2012 is when the Mayan calendar ends and they have always been saying that's the end.

Hell if it is I've lived a good life and so be it....................But I'll be damned if it's gonna end when Osluma gets his ass kicked out by a 99% to 1% margin

If you read into what he's actually stating.  The essence of it isn't to cause fear, panic, or fright.  He's been tirelessly preaching and warning just the opposite.  That even in times of calamity or disaster of earth-shattering Heaven-wrought proportions... GOD WILL PROVIDE.  That we mustn't give into fright, panic, fear, or worse yet... hopelessness.  It's an amazing soul-warming message, that's pretty darn scripturally sound.

For those of you whom haven't heard of David Wilkerson and read books on faith or download sermons, I really think you're missing out on some mind/soul blowing material.

Some may lament non-biblical writings or commentaries, but that's something I've never understood.

Nostrodamus[sic] and the Mayan calendar both have doomsday striking on 21 December 2012.

obama is probably going to set off a doomsday device [suicide and taking all of us with him] when he realizes his dream of ruling the world is not reachable.
