Once upon a time some land speculators took a group of prospective buyers on the train. They took them to a spot between Dallas and Fort Worth,  which was far out in the sticks at the time. They drew lots on a sheet and auctioned them off, someone went around handing out what he called the Irving Index newspaper.

Irving, TX was born. You might know it as the former home of the Dallas Cowboys, the home of the Boy Scouts of America and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. You might even know that its northern neighbor is one of the largest-busiest airports in the world. That airport actually has zoning power over the city, thanks to idiot state legislators.

That's it; Irving.

If I had been Richard Armey (it might have been a different congressman from Texas identified as "R-Irving," though--this was a long time ago), I would've insisted that C-Span identify me as "Richard Armey (R-Dallas-Fort Worth)", because as mentioned, not everybody has a handy-dandy atlas with him when watching television.

That was a nice story, Frank.  They've been married for 64 years.  My mother was in the hospital for a very long time after her open heart surgery.  She was younger than Mrs. Bush, but this was 20 odd years ago.  It did not go well thereafter, my prayers are with the Bush family that hers is better.  My throat tightened, too, watching Bush Sr. this morning.  He truly loves his wife.

I cannot believe the hideous start of this thread.  I'm speechless.  What in God's name did this nice old lady ever personally do to them?  They are acting like she's Hitler himself.  Aren't they getting the least bit embarassed by their threads?  I would be so ashamed to be part of that group, I'd quit the forum.

Hot damn.

I always envisioned Lubbock as being way down, not way up.

And after correcting my impression of where San Antonio is located, I had thought Corpus Christi was clear down at the bottom of Texas, but apparently not.

I always considered Waco a bedroom community of Dallas-Fort Worth.

Thanks, sir; like I said, my ignorance isn't malicious or a lack of intelligence--it's just that Texas (for NO negative reasons) wasn't ever in my sphere of interest.  For example, I've never been there, I have no relatives down there, and the Texans living in Nebraska (legally) have birthplaces further south than Texas.
